The VCT Stage 3 Challengers qualifiers are in full swing and some teams have already earned a spot in the main event. G2 Esports defeated Fnatic and knocked what many thought was Europe's top team to the lower bracket. Are G2 finally back?

Just the other day, we saw the conclusion of the VCT Stage 3 Challengers Europe open qualifiers. Eight teams earned a spot in the closed qualifiers and joined the other eight that were already waiting. After two days of competition, the sixteen teams are down to eight. Four teams got eliminated in the lower bracket – BK ROG Esports, BIG, Ninjas in Pyjamas, and TENSTAR.

G2 Esports Defeat Fnatic

Perhaps the most interesting series yesterday was the one between Fnatic and G2 Esports. Fnatic were considered by many the top European Valorant team. They took second place in the Stage 2 Masters Reykjavik where they only lost to Sentinels in the grand finals. Naturally, expectations were high. G2 Esports dominated the European scene a year ago, but slowly fell out of grace. Most recently, they changed four players on their roster, and it seems that the move is already paying off.

G2 Esports knocked Fnatic down to the lower bracket after only two games. They took the first map 13:9 and the second one 16:14.

With their victory over Fnatic, G2 Esports secured a spot at the Stage 3 Challengers main event. Here are the four teams that already qualified:

  • G2 Esports
  • Guild Esports
  • Acend
  • Team Liquid

Four More Teams Will Advance Further

The action will continue in a few hours with the remaining eight teams. Half of them will go home empty-handed, while the rest will qualify for the main event and join the four listed above. Here are the matches to look forward to today:

  • Fnatic vs. Wave Esports - 5:00 PM CET
  • Alliance vs. Rix.GG Thunder - 5:00 PM CET
  • Team BDS vs. Team Finest - 8:00 PM CET
  • FunPlus Phoenix vs. Team Vitality - 8:00 PM CET

The VCT Stage 3 Challengers Europe main event is set to take place between July 7-11.
