Over the course of the weekend, we saw a lot of competitive Valorant with the Valorant Champions Tour Open Qualifiers for Stage 2 Challengers. In a surprising turn of events, FaZe Clan fell to V1.

The Valorant Champions Tour is in full swing as many pro teams try to earn a spot in the second Masters tournament which will take place in Reykjavik, Iceland. It'll be one of the rare occasions where we see international play during the global pandemic. In order to get to Masters though teams will first have to prove themselves in Challengers.

FaZe Fall to V1

The VCT Stage 2 Challengers NA Open Qualifiers ended yesterday. The most competitive region in the Valorant scene offered some serious action and a fair share of twists: the biggest being FaZe Clan losing to V1. FaZe Clan signed Thomas "Trippy" Schappy as head coach in March and many fans expected them to show some good results.

The series between FaZe and Version 1 was as contested as it gets as things weren't clear until the very last round. Ultimately, V1 took the final map and earned a spot in the upcoming Challengers tournament. But wait who are V1? The team consists of experienced pro players coming over from CS:GO, unexpected I know. Here's the full roster:

  • Anthony "vanity" Malaspina
  • Keven "PLAYER1" Champagne
  • Loic "effys" Sauvageau
  • Erik "penny" Penny
  • Jordan "Zellsis" Montemurro
  • Ian "Immi" Harding (coach)

Built by Gamers Take Down Sentinels

Another big surprise at the open qualifiers was Sentinels losing to Built by Gamers. The team which won the VCT NA Masters 1 just two weeks ago is now having trouble in the open qualifiers. Sentinels are still playing with Tyson "TenZ" Ngo as a stand-in for Jay "sinatraa" Won since the latter is still suspended and there hasn't been an update on the sexual allegations.

BBG were just the better team in the series, and it only took two maps to prove it. Was it just Sentinels underestimating their opponents or are we bound to see some roster changes? Tell us what you think on Facebook or Twitter!
