Valve introduce more changes to Vertigo

The newest CS:GO update puts an emphasis on improving some of the game’s maps. Vertigo, so often the target of such alterations, has once again been reshaped in a way that pretty much forces a re-learning of the map. Vertigo is far from the only map to be affected by the patch, although Train is the only other Active Duty map to get a makeup.

New Vertigo meta…again

Valve have seemingly taken the fact that Vertigo is a construction site a bit too literal as the map has seemingly been under construction ever since it made its way into the Active Duty map pool in May 2019. Here comes yet another huge surgery that changes the landscape of the map in a significant manner.

The CS:GO patch notes on Vertigo state the following:

  • Brightened i-beam textures
  • Replaced wooden fence on A site with metal version, decreasing wallbang damage

Bombsite B:

  • Lowered height of site by 32 units
  • Tightened exit from T stairs
  • Removed “window” entrance from mid, replaced with a raised entrance near CT spawn
  • Flipped railings on stairs to site, to allow jump up from sandbag position
  • Reworked site layout and cover
  • Moved connector from B halls that went under mid, to further towards T spawn
  • Enabled B site in Wingman mode
  • Experiment: In Wingman mode, during Warmup, players will spawn in a 1v1 arena

As with every change ever, you might love it or hate it, but at least initially it feels like this update shakes things up in an unfavorable way for the CTs, who were already a bit handicapped on this map. Furthermore, the patch comes at a time when Vertigo remained in one piece for a prolonged period for the first time since its promotion to Active Duty. Just when we thought we’d have a somewhat stable meta, boom – update!

This is nothing new for Valve as we’ve had similar issues in the past, most famously with Overpass, but that doesn’t change the notion that pushing a map that is obviously unfit for competitive play into the Active Duty pool is straight-up stupid. Fix the map first, throw it on the pro scene later. Oh, Volvo, you never learn!

The patch notes also affect Train, Anubis, Chlorine, and Jungle.

On the cosmetic side of things, crosshairs now become a thing. Observed players’ original crosshairs will be visible and not only that, but you’ll be able to copy them if you like. Never has there been a better time to bring out that pink crosshair you’ve been lowkey wanting to use al this time.
