The WESG APAC, or the World Electronic Sports Games Asia-Pacific Finals, have been canceled. The CS:GO tournament’s collapse comes as a direct result of the recent coronavirus epidemic in mainland China.

The Coronavirus

Here is why the WESG APAC fell though. China was hit by a sudden viral pneumonia epidemic back in December thought to be caused by a previously unknown type of coronavirus. The disease has already claimed dozens of lives and there are hundreds of confirmed cases of the infection already.

While most are located in and around the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan, China, others have also been registered in neighboring Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand and even the United States of America.

Due to fear of further spreading of the virus, Chinese health officials have advised against traveling in and out of the country until the epidemic is put under control. Being the sensible gentlemen that they are, the WESG organizers placed everyone’s health above everything else and announced the cancellation of the Asia-Pacific Finals.

The WESG APAC Finals Curse

This CS:GO tournament seems cursed. The WESG APAC Finals were first supposed to take place in Malaysia in early January, but the whole thing fell through due to the local organizer failing to meet deadlines. The event was, therefore, moved a month forward with the new location being Macau.

The teams that were supposed to take part in the WESG APAC Finals are:

  • Virtus.pro
  • Syman
  • R-Stars
  • Invictus
  • dream[S]cape
  • OneTree
  • Ground Zero
  • Lucid Dream
  • Global
  • og3od
  • ikarus
  • BL4ZE
  • Yalla
  • Camel Riders
  • Absolute
  • AUGUST

Nothing has been officially declared yet on when or if the WESG APAC Finals will be played after all. The expectations are of a new date on perhaps the same location, but until an official statement is made your guess is as good as mine.
