We live to see yet another event between the official ones as DOTA Summit 12 is about to begin tomorrow. The teams are clear and there’s always a favorite

Organized by Beyond the Summit, DOTA Summit returns for its 12th edition. It's promising to be the spookiest event of the year as the tournament starts tomorrow and the grand finals are set for Friday 13th. We already know the list of participants:

  • Evil Geniuses
  • Cloud9
  • Fnatic
  • Team Liquid
  • OG Seed
  • Thunder Predator

Looking at them it hardly feels like a balanced tournament, but that’s ok since it’s not part of the official Dota Pro Circuit. There’s also another major fact to consider, the StarLadder Minor finished yesterday and most teams are either burned out or preparing for the next big event – the ESL One Los Angeles Major. With that out of the way let’s look at all the teams and decide who’s the most likely to win DOTA Summit 12.

Thunder Predator

The South American team has been dominant on the tier two scene for the region for years. Lately, they’ve even managed to reach the highest level of competitive Dota 2 by earning a spot for the ESL One LA Major. There’s one thing though, Thunder Predator have mainly played against other teams from the region and their experience on the international stage is rather limited.

OG Seed

Everyone knows OG and the fact that they’ve won two consecutive editions of The International, a feat no other team has achieved in the game’s history. But what about OG Seed? The team was created at the end of November last year and they haven’t had enough time to shine yet. Seed’s roster consists of some well-known players, but their achievements are still yet to come.

Team Liquid

In a way, Team Liquid is not what it used to be. The old roster that many remember have formed their own organization and now we know them as Nigma. To fill the gap, Team Liquid signed the ex-roster of Alliance and ever since they switched organizations, they’ve been doing quite well for themselves – finishing 4th at the DreamLeague Season 12 and 5th-6th at the Chengdu Major. Liquid are good, but will they be good enough to take on the rest?

Cloud9

The North American Cloud9 keeps coming back for more Dota 2. The latest iteration of the team came back to life less than a week ago when on March 3 three new players joined in to complete the roster. Before that the team managed to take part in only one event – the ESL One LA Major SEA Open qualifiers. There they lost to Trust Gaming. At this point in time Cloud9 could go either way, but chances are they’ll have trouble defeating the final two on this list.

Fnatic

Fnatic have had quite a lot of tournaments behind their back in the last season and their results greatly varied. Despite not topping the charts, the team only made two roster changes in September 2019 and ever since then, they’ve been sticking together. Taking 2nd place in Midas Mode – Asia the team also took part in the previous two Majors. Now they’ve qualified for their third in a row. Fnatic are tough and in theory, there’s only one team in DOTA Summit who can take them down.

Evil Geniuses

The notorious North American org changed some of their oldest players at the start of this season, but somehow they still managed to stay on top of the ladder. EG are currently 4th at the DPC rankings, right after TNC Predator, Vici Gaming and Team Secret. Finishing 4th at the Chengdu Major and second, at DreamLeague Season 13, the blue dream was so close both times. Evil Geniuses are currently the favorites to take DOTA Summit 12 and we’ll see them right after in the ESL One LA Major.
