Apex Legends, like any massive online game, has its fair share of bugs. Sometimes they break Legends, sometimes they ruin the map, and sometimes they don't even let you get on the servers to play. But one thing remains the same, no single patch will ever remove a bug completely. So all we can do is learn the quickest fixes, and pray we don't get the same bugs coming back too soon.

What Causes Error Code 429?
Error Code 429 occurs when the servers fail to validate your account because they believe (rightly or wrongly) that you are playing on an outdated version of the game. So even if you have updated the game, you can sometimes come across this error still. It's annoying, but it's not too difficult to solve, just follow the instructions beneath.
How Do You Fix Error Code 429?
Follow these steps in order, and attempt to sign in again after each stage.
- Check whether you have the latest version of the game installed.
- On Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5 and PS4, press select/start from the dashboard while Apex Legends is selected. From this new menu, choose "check for update". If you don't have the latest version installed, it will automatically begin downloading.
- On PC, find the game in your Steam library, right-click the game and select "Update" from the dropdown menu. There will be no Update option if the game is already running the latest version.
- Close Apex Legends, restart your PC or Console, and re-open Apex Legends. Turning things off and on again can be surprisingly effective, especially when it involves connection problems.
- Reinstall Apex Legends if you're still seeing Error Code 249. Sometimes your installation files can become corrupted, and until they release a program similar to what LoL players enjoy that can automatically "clean" your install, you'll need to manually delete it all and re-install the whole game.
Running through these steps, the vast majority of you should have resolved the issue before getting to the dreaded stage 3. If even a full reinstallation doesn't work for you, however, then you might have more troubling issues. In which case, get in touch with EA directly.
