Picture yourself in an Activision board meeting for a moment. On a whiteboard, "Modern Warfare" and "Black Ops" have been circled in red, and hundreds of lines protrude from these two keywords, which lead to yet more buzzwords "remaster/reboot?". But clearly all avenues have been exhausted, and everyone in the room looks drained. Then a quivering hand rises from one end of the table, "what about a Call of Duty: Ghosts reboot?"
CoD: Ghost Teasers Appear In Caldera
Let's start with the actual trailer for the new Warzone Pacific map. At the 54-second mark we see a sniper wearing one of the masks from Call of Duty: Ghosts:
Now, that alone might not seem like much. But Call of Duty love to put these little hints and clues in their games, especially in Warzone. And when we couple this Ghost mask with another seen on a new blueprint coming to Vanguard, the hint becomes clearer still:
And remember readers, this symbol is iconic to Call of Duty: Ghost's and no other Call of Duty Game. Needless to see, our brows were raised.
It's a weird pick for them to have chosen for a reboot though. Ghost's was famously unpopular, in fact, it might be the single least popular Call of Duty in franchise history. But it could be a great next project for Sledgehammer, who don't have a Black Ops or a Modern Warfare to fall back on. And the concept behind Ghosts was solid, so you could easily see them making a good game out of it.
When Can We Expect A CoD: Ghosts Reboot?
Well next year we're almost certainly getting Modern Warfare 2, and this is a project that would be handed off to Sledgehammer in all likelihood (so that Treyarch can reboot Black Ops), therefore, Call of Duty: Ghosts is probably going to be the 2024 Call of Duty.
We'll let you know as soon as more teases have been discovered. Until then, enjoy Caldera!
