Complexity gaming are the new eClub World Cup champions after beating Ellevens Esports in the grand final of the competition in Milan, Italy.

A week to remember for Complexity Gaming

The FIFA department of Complexity continued what the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive team started earlier on the weekend. After the CS:GO boys shockedthe world at BLAST Premier Spring Series, it was all but natural for the magical Complexity weekend to extend into FIFA.

Joksan “Joksan” Redona and Max “MaXe vip” Popov were the stars of the moment, bringing glory to their team with some impressive and some extremely dramatic victories in Italy. By virtue of winning their group, the Americans were pinned against one of the weaker teams in the playoffs in the Round of 16 – Mkers. An upset was never on the cards for the home team, the Italians got smashed 3-0 across two legs.

Tough road to the final for the champions

The quarter-finals offered more of a challenge as Joksan and MaXe vip had to face off against former world champion Spencer "Gorilla" Ealing and last year’s Xbox FIFA Global Series winner Tom “Stokes” Stokes of team NEO. The Brits did not let fans down and took the tie all the way to extra time in the deciding third match. A Ronaldo goal in the first period of added time was just what Complexity needed and a sturdy defense in the remaining minutes guaranteed they would be part of the semi-finals.

Another Italian team stood in the way there – AS Roma. Represented by two foreigners – Pole Damian "damie" Augustyniak and Brazilian Miguel "SpiderKong" Bilhar, the Italian giants were one of the strong favorites coming into the tournament. It took every ounce of skill by the Complexity players and some Messi magic to squeeze a tedious 1-0 overall victory over two matches, taking the Americans to the championship game.

The grand final

There awaited Ellevens Esports who were riding on the euphoria of an amazing comeback versus Fnatic in the semi-finals. Their momentum was broken in the first leg of the final but a recovery in the 2v2 meant that Ellevens’ Pedro "Resende" Soares and MaXe vip will be deciding the fate of the trophy in the deciding third match.

That final game was nerves incorporated as one could expect. Neither player wanted to risk losing his team the final and after 120 goalless minutes, it came down to the ultimate lottery to decide the new eClub World champion. A dreadful shootout commenced with six of the nine penalties missed. MaXe vip managed to commit one less mistake than his Brazilian opponent and emerged victorious, completing one of the more improbable runs in this tournament’s history.

MaXe vip and Joksan won $40,000 and 2,000 Global Series points each. Worth going through all that final drama, eh Max?
