Gran Turismo is getting a movie, if you didn't even know that much then maybe check out this article first. Does it sound like the best game to make a film about? Nah, probably not, but in this case it's based on a true story (more on that below). We don't yet know much about the cast, but we do have a release date for you guys and the first details on the plot.

Gran Turismo Release Date & Plot Details Leaked

The Gran Turismo movie will be released on August 11, 2023, according to the legendary leaker Nibel, and he even told us a basic outline of the plot. Here's what we had to say:

Based on a true story, the project is described as the ultimate wish-fulfillment tale of a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills won a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional race car driver.

If you're wondering how much of a "true story" this actually is then you'll be surprised to hear this one checks out. The player in question is Jann Mardenborough who won a 2011 Gran Turismo competition hosted by Nissan, in which top-level players were invited to compete against each other in actual racing cars. He won and become the "GT Academy Driver", which involved a 6-month racer training course at Silverstone. And since then he's competed at the highest level (of actual race car driving), famously winning a class podium at the Le Mans 24 Hours. It really is a film-worthy story,

If you're an avid racing game player then we think you're in for a real treat with this film (also, do yourself a favor and check out the phenomenal new F1 game). But even if racing games aren't your thing, it sounds like an inspiring enough story for us all to enjoy.
