Netflix has officially cast its One Piece show, and we have the full cast below, along with our 'expert' opinion on whether they got it right, of course.
A while back, Netflix revealed its first One Piece script, and, back then, we were already wondering how in the hell Netflix was going to cast the arguably most iconic characters in anime and manga history. Now, we have to wonder no longer, because the cast for the upcoming live-action Netflix show has been revealed. At least, the cast for Luffy, Nami, Sanji, Usopp and Zoro, that is.
One Piece Live-Action Cast
There they are: Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji. Noticeably, there is no Chopper, so it's likely that the show takes place well before every Furry's adaptable wet dream joins the crew.
Now, how do we feel about the casting? Well... I shouldn't say 'we', since I can only speak for myself, but I absolutely love the casting of Nami and Usopp. Sanji and Zoro look good enough too, but I can't be alone in thinking that Taz Skylar would also make a perfect Zoro, right? Obviously, the elephant in the room and the most controversial casting is that of Luffy himself, and I don't envy Inaki Godoy for the harsh way the internet is likely to react. We all know anime fans are arguably the most loyal and hardcore, so when you give a real face to one of anime's most beloved characters... well, it can only divide the masses.
Still, most of the cast seems on point, and Eiichiro Oda himself was a part of the casting process. The author is also heavily involved in the show, which should give everyone confidence in the product. Ultimately though, it will be a while until we truly find out more, since it will arguably be more than a year until this show airs.
