"I'm a Barbie Girl, in a Barbie World...", well the Barbie World won't be in Vietnam, since the country has official banned the upcoming movie from airing. The reasons behind the decision were political, of course. With the inclusion of a map, showing the region, the movie violated a UN tribunal ruling. Here is everything you need to know about this bizarre topic.

Vietnam Banns Barbie Movie

The upcoming Barbie movie might be one of the most anticipated movies in 2023. Every fan of the vast Barbie universe wants to see, how the Barbie World is presented. And if the action fits to their visions from childhood memories. But now there is sad news for all fans of the pink universe in Vietnam. It was announced that the movie won't air in the South-Asian country.

The reason behind this are delicate and hard to explain, since they're part of the ongoing disputed between China and other countries of this region. To explain it as easy as possible. The movie was banned for violating a UN Tribunal ruling regarding the so called "nine-dash line". Which was shown on a map we see in the movie.

The nine-dash line is a disputed territorial marking, used by the People's Republic of China in the South China See. The line marks all the regions that China claims to be part of their national territory. A tribunal of the United Nations ruled against the nine-dash line in 2016, but China refuses to acknowledge the decision.

So the Vietnam Cinema Department withdrew all the advertisement for the movie and deleted it from their official website. So at least in Vietnam, there's a clear winner in the ongoing meme-war between Barbie and Oppenheimer.
