Diablo 4 introduces a bunch of new mechanics to the legendary series. Some are more immediately obvious, like the new shared open world or the new skill system. But some are subtler, like the changes Blizzard introduced to how weapons work.

You can have multiple weapons equipped with your character in Diablo 4. But how you switch between them is not immediately clear. We will show you, how weapon swapping works in Diablo 4.

Diablo 4: Weapon Switching Explained

Switching weapons in Diablo 4 is actually pretty simple, you just need to understand what’s happening here. You don’t manually swap between equipped weapons. Instead, every sword, mace, club etc. is tied to a specific skill.

So to swap weapons, you just need to trigger whichever skill is attached to your weapon. For example: I’m playing Barbarian, and my basic skill “Flail” is executed by my dual-wield weapons. One of my other basic skills, “Lunging Strike”, is tied to my Two-Handed Bludgeoning weapons. So depending on which skill you activate, your character automatically switches weapons.

That’s why it’s important to be well-equipped in all your different weapon slots, not just one. This system is a little confusing at first, but you will quickly get into it. We hope we could help you with that and we hope you’re enjoying Diablo 4 as much as we are.
