Square Enix took many of us by surprise as they announced the third-person shooter, Foamstars. The quirky and chaotic shooter is something to look forward to, especially if you're a fan of Overwatch or Splatoon
We start off with a lively, catchy song and dive into an action-packed PvP game that has the potential to be more than just a "Splatoon clone". As we approach the open beta at the end of September, we'll see just how exciting the game is.

Foamstars Beta: Everything You Need To Know
The open beta is at the corner, and soon you'll be able to create slippery surfaces to surf around, build up a foam terrain, defend yourself from enemy attacks and foam up your opponents. Here is everything you need to know about the Foamstars Beta by starting with the release date & time!
Release Date & Time
The Foamstars open beta starts on September 30, and lasts until October 2, 2023. Granting you a whole weekend to dive into the foam and try the game for yourself!
- The server will go live at 6pm PDT/ 9pm EDT/ 2 am BST.
- The server will go offline at 12am PDT/ 3am EDT/ 8 am BST
In this game, foam is the ultimate resource. “It can be used in multiple ways – to create slippery surfaces that players can use to surf around the arena at high speed; to build terrain, helping players defend from enemy attacks or creating high vantage points to take out opponents; and finally, to foam up the opposition and win the match.
Platforms & How To Join
As for now, Foamstars will only release on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 alike, but the beta is only for PS5 owners. It's uncertain if PC or Xbox players will be granted access as well. Considering Splatoon's significant presence on the Switch, we aren't factoring Foamstars will ever be released on Nintendo Switch.
In order to join the Foamstars Open Beta Party on your PlayStation 5, you need to visit the PlayStation store page and launch the game. Participation is completely for free, and you don't need a PlayStation Plus subscription – sweet!
Characters
With the latest trailer, we got a good look at the quirky and colorful cast of athletes taking part in the Foamsmash tournament. Each Foamstar uses their own unique foam gun and skill set to the fight.
These are the characters you'll be able to play:
- Soa - the "Stylish Idol" with the Dual Pistol "Twinkle Groove"
- Agito - the "Pro-Gamer" with the Shotgun "Muramasa"
- Tonix - the "Genius Inventor" with the Burst Rifle "Her Majesty Queen Soda"
- Jet Justice - the peacekeeper "Civilian Hero" with the Shotgun "Jet Blaster"
- Pen Gwyn - the "Penguin Soldier" - who fights against Global Warming, with the Assault Rifle "PNG-90S"
- Rave Breaker - "The Sanitizer" wants to eliminate everyone with the Wide Hose "World Sanitizer"
- The Baristador - the gentleman "Gentle and Generous" with the Long Hose "Coffee Breaker"
- Mel T - the "Innocent and Cute" poster girl with the Missile Launcher "Heartful Delivery"
Game Modes
During the open beta you'll be able to play two different game modes with different goals. Let's take a closer look:
- SMASH THE STAR – After knocking out seven enemy players, the best player on the opposing team will be chosen as the "Star Player". Win by knocking out the opposing team's Star Player.
- HAPPY BATH SURVIVAL – A battle with two "infield" and two "outfield" players. Knock out the opponents in the arena to win! The battle will continue until one team's two combatants are knocked out.
