Did You Know There is a Halo Live-Action Series Coming? Me Neither.

Paramount+ is working on a Halo live-action series that is focused around the Master Chief. The series will focus on the 26th century war between the Covenant and the United Nations Space Command.

So, Paramount+ is working on a live-action Halo series that will, get this, "show the Master Chief from a new side." Oh, wow, shocker. Really? You're gonna give the guy in a green suit, with no face, the most generic first-name John, a surname made up of the numbers 117 and a backstory that's as tragic as it is overused and boring (he was abducted from his parents before his planet was destroyed), a guy who is literally called Master Chief, which was arguably the first gamer-tag ever used... this guy, you're really gonna show this guy from a whole new side?

Wow. Absolute, stunner. I am shocked. Who would've thought a TV show is actually going to give its main character some goddamn character. Paramount+... you might have a winner on your hands here...

Jesus Christ...

What We Know About the Halo Live-Action Series

  • It will show the Master Chief, like we've never seen him before. Yawn.
  • It is set in the 26th century war between the Covenant and the United Nations Space Command
  • It will have personal stories of the Master Chief (I just can't get over using that name in sentences like these)

Here's what Kiki Wolfkill, studio head of Halo transmedia at 343, and owner of the most badass name ever, said to IGN in an exclusive interview:

Probably the biggest challenge with adapting the game is, the game is designed to put you in Chief's armor. What we're asking people to do with the show is sort of sit back, and we're going to present a side of Chief that you just don't get to play in the game.

Yup, fair enough. That does sound like a challenge. Even more of a challenge for Pablo Schreiber, who is the actor tasked with bringing life to the lifeless. If you're not familiar, you might know him from American Gods, where he played Mad Sweeney or Den of Thieves, where he was absolutely ripped.

Jokes aside, I'm looking forward to the show, because, to me, the Master Chief has always been more of a weakness than a strength. Honestly, Pablo Schreiber is a great actor and if he does manage to make this iconic character come to life... it might just be one to remember. The fact that it is a TV show rather than a movie is interesting, since it actually does force them to get into the nitty-gritty of the character: You can't fill a whole series with just action and explosions, unlike the many trash video-game movie adaptions we've seen over the years.

Kiki, you sure got your work cut out for you, and if you want to know more, here's the full interview from our three-lettered competition:
