The new Souls-like game, Lies of P, is an incredible blend between the Pinocchio fairy tale and Bloodborne (basically), but it also adds steampunk elements to the overall aesthetic. To say that we're hyped is an understatement.

But besides having an interesting storyline, Lies of P adds new gameplay mechanics into the mix, such as the lie system and the P-Organ system. Both can be a bit confusing to grasp at the beginning, but that's what we're here for!

We'll explain to you what the P-Organ system is and how it works, so stick around for more!

Lies of P: What Is The P-Organ System

In Lies of P we play as Pinocchio (aka P), a humanoid puppet that's been created by Geppetto. Since you're a puppet, you don't actually have real organs, but instead, mechanical ones.

Your key instrument is your P-Organ, aka Pinocchio's heart. While I'm sure that a mechanical heart has its downsides, it definitely has its upsides as well. The most important perk: upgrades.

The P-Organ system in Lies of P allows you to upgrade your character and give him new skill sets as time goes on.

Once you've defeated the Scrapped Watchmen boss in the Alchemist Bridge, you'll unlock the ability to use the P-Organ system.

In order to use the P-Organ system, you'll have to go to Gepetto, who you can find on Hotel Krat's second floor. After you've talked to Geppetto, his chair and tools will always be available for you to use for the P-Organ system.

Lies of P: How The P-Organ System Works

Once you've unlocked the P-Organ system, you can upgrade P by using Quartz. You can obtain Quartz by defeating enemies.

It's possible that there will also be other possibilities to gain Quartz, but this is the only way that we know about so far.

Using Geppetto's tools, you can open up your P-Organ and the game will show you a skill tree, that's divided into five tiers. Each tier, aka a "Phase" is subsequently divided into four more groups, each with a varying number of skill slots.

You can select which slots you want to unlock from each group, but by decrypting all slots in one group, a new set of special synergy effects will set in.

You can see the different slots, and thus possible upgrades, in the image above. From what we've seen so far, all slots can be unlocked at the cost of one Quartz each. It's likely that higher tier abilities will cost more Quartz, though.

In general, it seems as though there are four different types of unlockable upgrades:

  • Attack
  • Survival
  • Ability
  • Item

Here's what advantages each type of ability will give you:

Attack

Attack type upgrades will enhance P's combat skills and thus his offensive capabilities. By unlocking an attack ability, you can upgrade Pinocchio's charge or fatal attacks, for example.

Survival

The survival upgrades will upgrade Pinocchio's guarding abilities, which can either help him recover faster, for example. Another possible upgrade is that P can increase his number of Fuel Cells Charge after he successfully performed a Fatal Attack. All of these upgrades will help increase your chance of, well, surviving.

Ability

Ability upgrades will help improve and unlock a bunch of different types of combat skills like Perfect Guard or Charge Attack.

Item

Item upgrades can help to improve Pinocchio's item capacity, and other item related upgrades, like getting bonuses from killing enemies.

Once the game is released, we'll be able to find out more about Lies of P's P-Organ system, and we'll keep you updated! So check for updates regularly, if you want to find out more.
