PILLARS OF ETERNITY

Pillars of Eternity was released in 2015 by Obsidian Entertainment and Paradox Interactive. A successfully crowdfunded game on Kickstarter that raised over $4 million for its development, Pillars of Eternity is an isometric RPG with a real-time-with-pause mode that allows you to tactically issue commands.

Baldurs Gate

BALDUR'S GATE 3

While the game is still in early access, Act 1 still boasts an impressive playtime of 20 hours with additional acts leading up to the official release. Early access started on October 6 and the game is being developed by Larian Studios with licensing from Wizards of the Coast, the makers of D&D.

Baldur’s Gate 3 uses the D&D 5e ruleset for most gameplay mechanics in and out of combat, a system that many have hailed as pretty good for introducing D&D to newcomers. Things are often decided by a literal die roll that appears on the screen. This game was released on September 25, 2018, for PC and is an RPG that also uses the DnD Pathfinder tabletop ruleset. This game has in-depth combat and a complex Kingdom mode where you can manage the land you rule, hire advisors, establish trade routes or repel raiding parties. The only non-fantasy RPG on our list is Wasteland 3 but The game is so good that it is worthy of its spot! Wasteland 3 is an RPG developed by inXile Entertainment and published by Deep Silver. Released on August 28, 2020, it is set in a futuristic dystopia where rival factions fight for control of the post-apocalyptic world.

DIVINITY: ORIGINAL SIN II

Developed by Larian Studios and released September 14, 2017, this game is a story-driven RPG with a lot of character customization and a very complex combat system. The combat allows you to combine different spells or materials like oil and fire, water and lightning to devastating effects.
