WoW SoD: How To Make Gold

Gold is a rare currency on new World of Warcraft realms, like the Season of Discovery ones. In this guide, we'll show you how to make gold in WoW SoD, either in the leveling phase as well as when you're at level 25.

Blizzard has just launched Season of Discovery realms in World of Warcraft, and having played up all until level 25 (the actual level cap), we can tell you that the new game mechanics and special abilities bring in a lot of fun. Plus, the good thing is that with the overall amount of gold still being very low on new realms, the server economy is still in harmony, meaning items cost what they're supposed to cost – at least for a while.

However, you should definitely try to get as much gold as possible, since you need it to buy skills, items and more, not to mention that prices in the Auction House are more likely to rise than fall. So here's a quick guide with some gold farming tips for WoW: Season of Discovery.

In your mind

To make this clear right from the start: The best way to generate gold is by completing quests being level 25 – so if you want to be efficient and effective in making gold, scroll down to the chapter about how to farm gold at max level.

Making much gold in the low level phase (let's say at least until you enter the first 16+ dungeons) is actually very inefficient and very hard. The reason for that is that the lower the quests you complete and the mobs you kill are, the less their rewards and loot will be worth – you can actually be happy if you find something you can sell for at least 1 silver.

Over time, you get better loot which you can sell for better prices to eventually have more than one gold in your bag; but usually you'll soon drop below one gold again because you have to buy skills, and they cost you a lot.

The only leveling gold strategy that can really make a slight difference in our opinion is to buy and sell items of worth in the Auction House. We recommend using an add-on like Auctionator to once scan the price of all items that are currently for sale in the Auction House. Having done so, you can see the latest Auction House price for every item you find during your journey, and therefore easily decide whether you should sell it to a vendor or put it in the Auction House as well.

Long story short: Don't expect to get rich during your first hours in Azeroth.

We've spoiled it at the beginning: If you want to make a relatively high amount of gold in a relatively short time, try to get to max level first, which is 25 during the first phase of SoD. As soon as you reach level 25, complete quests that you haven't done yet, starting with the ones that are within your level range.

The reason for that is that at max level, the XP that you would get from quests is converted into gold, resulting in a much higher amount of gold that you get from quests. Take a look at the screenshot above that shows some quest rewards from Menethil Harbor in the Wetlands at level 25 – they all bring in between about 50 silver and almost 2 gold now, which is quite a lot in the current state of Season of Discovery.

Tip

Use the Add-on Questie (we recommend downloading it via CurseForge) to see all uncompleted quests that are within your level range on the map. To see how much XP or gold a quest will give you, hold Shift while hovering over the exclamation mark.

There are obviously other options to make gold as well; grinding, farming dungeons, trading items and BoE equipment, making use of your professions (crafting and selling bags is great to skill up Tailoring in the current phase) and more.

Extra Tip

Regarding everything around the Auction House, try to think about which items will become expensive in the later SoD phases and start collecting them already now to get even more revenue later!

And that's it – now get back into World of Warcraft, the most addictive game ever made!
