It’s January, and that of course means one thing: it’s time for Awesome Games Done Quick! Like every year, viewers can look forward to a week full of amazing speedruns and a chock-full live program from January 14 to January 21. Once again, the goal of the event is to collect donations for the Prevent Cancer Foundation.

Why Games Done Quick Is The Best Video Game Event Of The Year

I really love Games Done Quick and their two huge live-events, SGDQ and AGDQ. Every year, there is an incredible selection of speedruns, running 24/7 for a good cause. The event is once again raising money for the Prevent Cancer Foundation and viewers can either just donate, have messages read live on-air or contribute to certain run-based incentives. Last year, Summer Games Done Quick managed to raise over 2.2 million dollars for Doctors Without Borders.

One of the best things about any GDQ event is, that there’s no way you won’t find something there that will just blow your mind. Either through crazy shenanigans, like when Mitchriz beat Sekiro in two hours while blindfolded. Or you catch one of the many runs that is just incredibly impressive in terms of performance, like simply smashing through Super Mario 64. The runs are always top tier, and it’s usually worth just tuning in at any time, even if you have no clue what the game that is being played even is.

There’s obviously a ton of that going on at Awesome Games Done Quick 2024 as well. However, if you’re looking for speedruns of your favorite games, there’s plenty to offer too. Classics like Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Super Mario 64, Mega Man, Silent Hill 2, Diablo and many more will be played through in the fastest ways possible.

Check the stream out here and you might find your next favorite streamer!

It’s really cool to also see a lot of newer games in the line-up. Seeing speedruns for releases as fresh as Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Baldur’s Gate 3, Armored Core 6, Super Mario Bros. Wonder or Starfield is not always a given at this events and will surely be exciting to see. And again: it’s all for a good cause as well. What’s not to love?

Here are some personal recommendations for upcoming runs (all times are in EDT). If you miss any run live, don’t worry: They’re quickly uploaded to the official Games Done Quick YouTube channel.
