The name Cthulhu should probably ring a bell. First published in 1928, Lovecraft's "The Call of Cthulhu" evolves around a cult obsessed with the mythos of an interstellar entity with supernatural powers. Considered being one of the most influential horror tales, the short story contributed to the birth of the famous Cosmic Horror genre.

It was only a matter of time until the material was adapted into a movie, and hardly anyone would fit better for the job of the director than James Wan.

Conjuring Director Takes Care Of The Call of Cthulhu-Movie

James Wan has established himself as one of the most prominent modern horror movie directors, being known to a broad audience for his contributions to the Insidious and The Conjuring franchises. Body horror enthusiasts of course all know him for his early work on the original Saw series. Now, another fantastic horror tale waits to be brought to the screen by him.

Online news site Deadline.com recently published a list of film projects that are set to be turned into video games, with "James Wan’s The Call of Cthulhu" being mentioned amongst other entries, announcing the movie itself for the first time as well. He apparently worked silently on the movie for five years, which he describes as his "dream project."

The exact release date for the new Cthulhu movie has not been announced yet. However, considering Wan's track record, it's safe to assume that the wait will be worthwhile.
