Adam Sandler can be tremendous when a director turns his simmering anger into dramatic fuel. Give Reeves heightened dialogue or a loose romantic scene, however, and the machinery becomes audible. Henry Cavill looks so convincingly like a classical hero that filmmakers sometimes forget to give him a personality after casting him.
