15 of the Most Random Side Characters in Star Wars History

1-15

These obscure Star Wars characters are so bizarre...

Max Rebo Star Wars

15. Max Rebo

Imagine being a blue, elephant-looking alien whose main contribution to the galactic history of Star Wars is playing music for a giant space gangster. That's essentially Max Rebo, the keyboard-playing musician who performs at Jabba's palace. His strange, vibrant appearance and tiny arms make him one of the franchise's most recognizable background characters. | © Lucasfilm Ltd./20th Century Fox

Bib Fortuna Star Wars

14. Bib Fortuna

With his pale skin, sharp teeth, and long head-tails, Bib Fortuna looks like someone you'd definitely want to avoid in a dark alley. This creepy Twi'lek serves as Jabba the Hutt's majordomo, greeting visitors and managing his boss's shady affairs. Despite being a relatively minor character in the original trilogy, he somehow survives long enough to take over Jabba's criminal empire. | © Lucasfilm Ltd./20th Century Fox

Babu Frik Star Wars

13. Babu Frik

One of the strangest additions to the sequel trilogy has got to be Babu Frik. This tiny alien mechanic, who appears in The Rise of Skywalker, specializes in reprogramming droids. He helps the heroes access C-3PO's restricted memories, but it's his squeaky voice, enormous eyes, and enthusiastic personality that steal the show. | © Lucasfilm/Bad Robot

TT 8 LY7 Star Wars

12. TT-8L/Y7

TT-8L/Y7 is one of our personal favorites for oddballs in the Star Wars franchise. Acting as the gatekeeper to Jabba the Hutt's palace, this strange, eyeball-like security droid pops out of the entrance to inspect visitors, including C-3PO and R2-D2. Its unusual mechanical eye and hilarious voice make it surprisingly memorable despite the character only appearing for a few seconds. | © Lucasfilm Ltd./20th Century Fox

Figrin Dan Star Wars

11. Figrin D'an

The Mos Eisley Cantina wouldn't be nearly as memorable without its iconic band, and Figrin D'an is the leader of the musicians responsible for that catchy tune. He's a Bith, an alien species with enormous heads and tiny facial features. While the galaxy is busy dealing with the Empire, he's simply trying to keep the music going in one of its sketchiest establishments in the Star Wars universe. | © Lucasfilm Ltd./Twentieth Century-Fox

Bobbajo Star Wars

10. Bobbajo

Bobbajo is an elderly alien who can briefly be spotted wandering around Jakku in The Force Awakens with cages full of small creatures strapped to his back. His enormous collection of animals makes him look like a walking pet shop, yet the movie never really explains what he's doing. He's definitely one of those wonderfully bizarre background characters who make the Star Wars universe feel incredibly rich and diverse. | © Lucasfilm Ltd./Bad Robot

Dexter Jettster Star Wars

9. Dexter Jettster

Who would've thought that one of Obi-Wan Kenobi's most useful contacts would be a four-armed alien running an American-style diner? Dexter Jettster somehow knows more about the mysterious Kaminoan saberdart than all of the Jedi Temple's analysis droids. He's friendly, knowledgeable, and has a weird pirate-like accent that's certainly one of the most unexpected things about him. | © Lucasfilm Ltd./20th Century Fox

Wat Tambor Star Wars

8. Wat Tambor

Wat Tambor is the leader of the Techno Union, but he's probably best remembered for his bizarre mechanical voice and habit of adjusting his chest-mounted controls while speaking. His appearance, strangely enough, resembles a robotic industrial machine. Technically, he's an important Separatist figure, yet we can't get over how weird of a character he is in Attack of the Clones. | © Lucasfilm Ltd./20th Century Fox

Yarael Poof Star Wars

7. Yarael Poof

Yarael Poof is a Jedi Master with an absurdly long neck, almost like a Kaminoan, who sits on the Jedi Council during The Phantom Menace. His unusual appearance makes him stick out like a sore thumb in any scene he's present in. Some scenes even have his head cut out of frame simply because of how tall he is. It's especially hilarious that he doesn't get addressed even a single time throughout the two-hour-long film. That's both weirdly funny and unfortunate because it's such a waste of an interesting-looking character. | © Lucasfilm Ltd./20th Century Fox

Willrow Hood Star Wars

6. Willrow Hood

You probably don't recognize his name, but you might remember the guy running through Cloud City in The Empire Strikes Back carrying what looks like an ice cream maker. Willrow Hood appears for just a few seconds during the evacuation of Bespin, yet somehow became a cult favorite in the Star Wars community. The object he's carrying was later identified as a computer memory core, but fans still affectionately call him the "Ice Cream Guy." | © Lucasfilm Ltd./Twentieth Century-Fox

Yaddle Star Wars

5. Yaddle

For years, Yaddle was essentially known as the female version of Yoda who sat quietly on the Jedi Council. She barely does anything in The Phantom Menace, and that has left many wondering why another member of Yoda's mysterious species was casually just sitting in the background. Thankfully, the animated series, Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi, eventually gave her a much more meaningful story. | © Lucasfilm Ltd./20th Century Fox

Sy Snootles Star Wars

4. Sy Snootles

Sy Snootles is the long-legged, trunk-mouthed alien singer who performs with the Max Rebo Band at Jabba's palace in Return of the Jedi. Her design is already strange enough, but the musical number added to the film's 1997 Special Edition made her even harder to forget. Against all odds, this bizarre nightclub performer has become one of the franchise's most recognizable background entertainers. | © Lucasfilm Ltd./20th Century Fox

Klaud Star Wars

3. Klaud

Klaud is a slug-like alien who somehow ends up helping the Resistance maintain the Millennium Falcon, despite having no visible arms. Funnily enough, Klaud allegedly was brought into the Resistance by mistake. But that's pretty much all you need to know about why he's such an entertaining character to see in the background. His strange design and permanently confused expression briefly turned him into a meme shortly after the release of The Rise of Skywalker. | © Lucasfilm/Bad Robot

Ben Quadinaros Star Wars

2. Ben Quadinaros

Ben Quadinaros might have been the unluckiest one of all the podracers competing against young Anakin Skywalker in The Phantom Menace. This vegetable-looking alien barely gets his podracer moving before the engines malfunction and explode. His entire racing career, at least as far as the movie is concerned, amounts to one spectacular failure. Still, his ridiculous character design makes him incredibly difficult to forget. | © Lucasfilm Ltd./20th Century Fox

Salacious B Crumb Star Wars

1. Salacious B. Crumb

No side character in the entire Star Wars franchise is more iconic than Salacious B. Crumb. Jabba the Hutt apparently needed someone whose entire job was to laugh at his jokes, and that's where he comes in. This bizarre little Kowakian monkey-lizard spends most of his screen time cackling, annoying people, and generally being unpleasant. He absolutely has no importance to the overall story, but his ridiculous laugh and creepy appearance make him unforgettable. | © Lucasfilm Ltd./20th Century Fox

1-15

The Star Wars franchise is packed with unforgettable characters, but not all of them are Jedi heroes, sinister Sith lords, or legendary bounty hunters. Some are just random aliens hanging out in cantinas, background creatures with bizarre appearances, or characters who show up for a few seconds before disappearing forever. That said, here are 15 of the most random side characters in Star Wars history.
