Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides — 5. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

The fourth installment of the saga was the nail in the coffin for the franchise, because although there is a fifth part, the popular interest in Pirates of the Caribbean had been lost. We have an older Johnny Depp, whose Jack Sparrow no longer sounds kooky and fun, but rather like a drunk uncle who is embarrassing to see at family gatherings. Additionally, the love story between the mermaid and the forgettable male secondary character feels so empty and forced, having no room to grow under the shadow of Will and Elizabeth, two of the main characters that this movie kind of forgot about.

As always, the greatest sin a movie in this franchise can commit is being boring, and I'm afraid that Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides achieves its goal in finding the fountain of youth, but only in putting us to sleep eternally. The only positive point is seeing Barbossa in the corsair outfit. But don't get me started on his relationship with his daughter... | © Walt Disney Pictures

Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Men Tell No Tales — 4. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

Actually, imagine that Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and its predecessor are in the same position on this list. At least I can remember On Stranger Tides for its flaws, but Dead Men Tell No Tales is completely missing from my mind, despite having seen it more than once. But the good part? I will always love Javier Bardem, especially when he plays a villain. And I have to say, the final scene in the rift in the water does stick in my head. But as for the rest, well, it’s Jack Sparrow staying longer than he is welcome... | © Walt Disney Pictures

Pirates of the Caribbean At Worlds End — 3. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End

The last of the original trilogy, and one that, despite its flaws and more absurd moments, stands out as the end of the adventure for Will and Elizabeth, and also for one of the best villains in cinema with Davy Jones. I still hate the scene where our protagonists get married in the middle of a final battle, with Barbossa acting as the priest, but I love the way they expanded the mythology of the universe with the pirate code and the captains from all over the world. Definitely, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End feels like an ending that may not be perfect in execution, but satisfying in concept, and compared to today’s franchises, I can't ask for more. | © Walt Disney Pictures

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest was very revolutionary for its time, especially in terms of special effects. The CGI used to create Davy Jones' pirates and the leviathan still looks incredible even today. But beyond that, this sequel rekindled our hope and longing for pirates, presenting a villain who is as cool as he is terrifying, and one of the most memorable introductory action scenes in film history. | © Walt Disney Pictures

But at the end of the day, Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl has to be the best of them all, not just for being the first that started the entire franchise, but because it perfectly balances humor, action, and the threat posed by Barbossa's pirates. Not only that, but it tells a solid story from beginning to end, like a complete adventure of a simple blacksmith who becomes a pirate, and his wacky and fun mentor.
