Cropped Abut

About this gallery:

Although it’s a small company with only five games, each one is a masterpiece and deserves to be played. But precisely because of this, it’s hard to rank them from worst to best, though we’ll do our best. If you think this shouldn’t be the ranking order, why not leave us a comment? | © Supergiant Games

Cropped Bastion

5. Bastion (2011)

Bastion was Supergiant’s debut title and instantly made a name for the studio. Its dynamic narration, where the narrator reacts to your every move, set a new standard for storytelling in games. The world of Bastion is a colorful, hand-painted masterpiece, and the isometric action gameplay is tight and responsive.

The soundtrack is also a highlight, complementing the game’s mood perfectly. While Bastion offers an emotional and memorable journey, its relatively short length and simple mechanics compared to later titles may leave players wanting more depth. | © Supergiant Games

Cropped Pyreee

4. Pyre (2017)

Pyre is perhaps the most experimental of Supergiant’s games, blending visual novel elements with a unique sports-like combat system called the "Rites." The worldbuilding and characters are deeply engaging, with moral choices that affect the outcome of the story. The game’s art and music are, as always, outstanding.

Although the unusual mix of genres and slower pace may not resonate with everyone, and the strategic sports-like gameplay can feel repetitive over time, Pyre stands out for its ambition and its richly developed world. | © Supergiant Games

Cropped Transistor

3. Transistor (2014)

Transistor is a beautiful blend of action and strategy, featuring a deep, tactical combat system that allows for both real-time action and pause-and-plan mechanics. The game’s futuristic, cyberpunk setting is visually stunning, and its melancholic narrative is both haunting and poetic. The connection between the protagonist, Red, and the mysterious Transistor weapon is emotionally compelling.

However, its complexity can be overwhelming for some players, and the story’s vagueness leaves parts of the plot open to interpretation, which may not appeal to everyone. Nonetheless, it’s a visually striking and thought-provoking experience. | © Supergiant Games

Cropped Hades 2

2. Hades II (2023)

Building on the success of Hades, Hades II refines and expands the formula that made its predecessor so beloved. The new protagonist, Melinoë, offers a fresh perspective, and the game adds more depth to combat, relationships, and mythological lore. The game retains the challenging yet rewarding roguelike structure, with a broader range of weaponry and abilities to master.

The only downside for some players is that it treads very close to the original in terms of gameplay mechanics, offering evolution rather than revolution. Still, it’s a stellar sequel that builds on its foundation. | © Supergiant Games

Cropped Port1

1. Hades (2020)

Hades is widely regarded as Supergiant’s crowning achievement. The roguelike dungeon crawler blends fast-paced, satisfying combat with rich, character-driven storytelling, making each run through the Underworld feel meaningful. Its art style, voice acting, and soundtrack are all top-notch, immersing players in the mythological world of Greek gods.

The game’s greatest strength lies in its ability to make failure fun, as you return stronger with each death and uncover more of the story. The only minor flaw might be the repetitive nature of roguelikes, but Hades brilliantly mitigates this with its evolving narrative and ever-changing builds. | © Supergiant Games
