15 Movie Heroes Who Caused Far More Destruction Than the Villain

1-15

The real threat was the hero.

TV Shows & Movies - October 17th 2026, 15:00 GMT+2
The Suicide Squad 2021

15. The Suicide Squad (2021)

Starro the Conqueror only exists because the so-called heroes wheeled it out of a government lab. The Suicide Squad spends two hours making fun of military stupidity, then has its own team unleash a building sized alien starfish on Corto Maltese anyway. Thousands of civilians get mind controlled and crushed in the process. The joke is on anyone who thought this crew was an upgrade from the villains they were sent to stop. | © Warner Bros.
Cropped Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom

14. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018)

A twelve year old girl makes the single worst decision in the entire Jurassic Park franchise. Maisie Lockwood releases every genetically engineered monster in the house out of pure emotion, with zero plan for what happens next. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom frames it as a tender moment about clones deserving freedom. What it actually did was arm an already overstuffed franchise with dinosaurs loose in American neighborhoods for the next movie to deal with. | © Universal Pictures
Star Wars The Last Jedi

13. Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017)

Poe Dameron gets an entire fleet killed because he refuses to trust a plan he wasn't told about. Star Wars: The Last Jedi builds its whole middle act around his bomber run attack, which ends with the Resistance gutted and barely clinging to survival. Leia has to physically stop him from getting everyone else killed too. Framing this as a hero's arc is a stretch when the body count says mutineer. | © Walt Disney Studios
The Matrix

12. The Matrix (1999)

Guns, lobbies, and a death toll that never gets mentioned again. Neo walks into a government building in The Matrix and guns down a wall of security guards who have no idea they're fighting a computer program. Every one of them is a real person plugged into the Matrix, which the movie itself establishes as a rule. Saving humanity apparently requires killing a few dozen humans first. | © Warner Bros.
Godzilla vs Kong

11. Godzilla vs. Kong (2021)

Hong Kong does not survive this one intact. Godzilla vs. Kong turns an entire city into the arena for two supposedly heroic monsters settling a grudge, leveling skyscrapers as collateral. Kong gets framed as the sympathetic underdog throughout, yet his fight path still carves a crater through a dense urban center. Nobody on screen ever stops to count what got buried under all that concrete. | © Warner Bros.
Cropped Transformers Dark of the Moon

10. Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011)

Chicago spends the back half of Transformers: Dark of the Moon getting leveled, and the Autobots are swinging just as hard as the Decepticons. Buildings get folded in half, freeways collapse under robot bodyweight, and the people supposedly being protected barely factor into the fight choreography. Optimus Prime wins the day, sure, but the skyline tells a different story. Somebody in that city is filing an insurance claim against the good guys. | © Paramount Pictures
Cropped Furious 7

9. Furious 7 (2015)

Three skyscrapers get involved in a single chase scene in Furious 7, which should tell you everything about the restraint level. Dom drives a car through one glass tower, then another, treating downtown Abu Dhabi like a stunt ramp nobody consented to. The family saves their friend, technically, but they do it by turning a financial district into gravel. Heroism in this franchise just means better music playing while the city falls apart. | © Universal Pictures
Cropped Fast Five

8. Fast Five (2011)

A ten ton bank vault gets dragged through downtown Rio in Fast Five, crushing cars and flattening storefronts like they were never there. Dom and Brian treat it as a getaway plan, not a demolition crew job, even though the results look identical. The vault itself takes out more property than most movie villains manage in a whole runtime. Beating the bad guy was never going to be the expensive part of this plan. | © Universal Pictures
Cropped batman begins 2005

7. Batman Begins (2005)

Gotham's elevated train line used to move people around the city before Batman decided it needed to come down. In Batman Begins, he wrecks the entire railway to stop Ra's al Ghul, and the collateral damage includes buildings that had nothing to do with the plot. The villain wanted the city to burn in fear. The hero just skipped straight to the burning part. | © Warner Bros. Pictures
Spider Man No Way Home

6. Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)

One spell is all it takes for Peter Parker to crack open the multiverse in Spider-Man: No Way Home. He asks Doctor Strange for a shortcut around his own problems, and the fallout drags in villains, dimensions, and chaos that never needed to exist. Good intentions do not undo the fact that he caused the entire mess himself. Fixing his own mistake does not make it less of a mistake. | © Sony Pictures Releasing
Cropped Captain America Civil War

5. Captain America: Civil War (2016)

Nobody wins the airport fight in Captain America: Civil War, they just wreck the runway taking turns. Tires get flattened, jet bridges get torn apart, and a cargo plane ends up gutted before Rhodey even falls out of the sky. The actual villain, Zemo, isn't within a hundred miles of the place. Two future Avengers lineups just beat each other up over paperwork. | © Walt Disney Studios
The Incredibles

4. The Incredibles (2004)

Mr. Incredible cannot save a single person in The Incredibles without leveling the block around them. The opening rescue alone totals a train, a building, and several cars he was technically trying to protect. Insurance lawsuits are the actual inciting incident of this movie, not a supervillain plot. Supers get banned because the help kept costing more than the disaster. | © Walt Disney Pictures
Cropped hancock 2008

3. Hancock (2008)

Drunk, surly, and only occasionally aimed in the right direction, Hancock treats Los Angeles like a demolition site with bystanders attached. A simple train rescue in Hancock leaves the tracks ripped out and a stadium wrecked behind it. The guy he's supposedly saving nearly dies from the save itself. Being bulletproof apparently excused decades of property damage nobody else got to walk away from. | © Sony Pictures Releasing
Avengers Age of Ultron

2. Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)

Tony Stark's fix for alien invasions in Avengers: Age of Ultron turns out to be building an AI that wants everyone dead. Ultron isn't some outside threat that caught the Avengers off guard, he's a Stark Industries product with a grudge. Sokovia ends up lifted into the sky and dropped as a direct result of Tony's instincts. The villain of the sequel is paperwork from the hero's own lab. | © Walt Disney Studios
Man Of Steel

1. Man of Steel (2013)

Metropolis gets flattened in Man of Steel, and Superman is the one throwing most of the punches that do it. Entire city blocks collapse as he and Zod trade hits through skyscrapers like the buildings aren't occupied. Nobody on screen pauses the fight to clear the streets first. The guy on the poster is responsible for most of the wreckage underneath him. | © Warner Bros. Pictures

Strip away the heroic framing and some protagonists leave a trail of chaos, collateral damage, and casualties that would make the villain blush. Here are 15 movie heroes who caused far more destruction than the villain.
