15 Best Psychological Horror Movies of 21st Century
7. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
Tarantino calls The Texas Chain Saw Massacre a perfect movie because it contains nothing wasted, or fancy. Tobe Hooper builds dread through pacing and atmosphere, not gore, and the raw, documentary-like style makes it all feel disturbingly real. | © New Line Cinema
6. The Wild Bunch
Tarantino admits The Wild Bunch isn’t technically perfect, but that’s exactly why he holds it in such high regard. Its rough edges, wild editing, and unflinching violence aren’t flaws in his eyes, they're part of what makes Sam Peckinpah’s vision so powerful and unforgettable. | © Warner Bros. Pictures
5. Young Frankenstein
Tarantino considers Young Frankenstein the rare spoof that’s both hilarious and beautifully made. Mel Brooks nails the look and feel of classic horror, while Gene Wilder and Peter Boyle go all-in on the comedy without ever breaking the illusion. | © 20th Century Studios
4. Annie Hall
Tarantino admires Annie Hall for how boldly it reshaped the romantic comedy, funny, messy, and honest from the start. He also credits its emotional punch to the easy, electric chemistry between Woody Allen and Diane Keaton. | © MGM
3. The Exorcist
Tarantino sees The Exorcist as more than just a horror film, it's an emotional story about a mother willing to do anything to save her daughter. The demonic scares are unforgettable, but it’s the human desperation that makes it perfect. | © Warner Bros. Pictures
2. Jaws
For Tarantino, Jaws isn’t just about the shark; this movie is about putting three clashing personalities on a boat and watching the tension build. He sees the film’s real genius in the characters, not just the suspense. | © Universal Studios
