Zendaya's Top Movie Roles, Ranked from Worst to Best

1-15

From Disney kid to A-lister.

TV Shows & Movies - August 6th 2026, 00:00 GMT+2
Frenemies

15. Frenemies (2012)

Frenemies dropped Zendaya into a Disney Channel movie about middle school cliques, gossip, and the kind of friendship drama that feels huge at thirteen. She played Halley, one of a group of girls whose alliances shift depending on who said what about whom that week. Nobody walked away from this one calling it a highlight of anyone's career. It works fine as a time capsule of early 2010s tween television, nothing more. | © Disney Channel

Super Buddies

14. Super Buddies (2013)

Super Buddies barely counts as a movie role for Zendaya, since her voice work as Roxy gets buried under talking puppies and a wizard turning kids into superheroes. The plot involves a magic amulet, a villain named Materialistic Girl, and dogs flying around in capes. None of it asks much from the cast, voice actors included. This one lands at the bottom because it feels like a paycheck gig from before anyone knew what she'd become. | © Disney

Zapped

13. Zapped (2014)

Zapped came out during Zendaya's Disney Channel prime, and it plays exactly like a movie built for that audience and nobody else. She stars as Zoey, a girl whose phone app somehow lets her control boys like dogs, which sounds like a premise someone came up with in five minutes. The jokes land soft, the plot barely holds together, and the whole thing feels disposable next to what she'd do later. It's mostly notable now as a reminder of how far her range has stretched since. | © Disney Channel

Duck Duck Goose

12. Duck Duck Goose (2018)

Duck Duck Goose sits near the bottom of Zendaya's filmography for a reason. She voices Peng, a goose helping two lost ducklings find their way home, but the animation looks cheap even by direct-to-streaming standards. The jokes rarely land, and the whole thing feels like it was made for background noise rather than actual attention. Her voice work is fine, it just gets buried under a movie that never rises above filler. | © Netflix

Smallfoot

11. Smallfoot (2018)

Smallfoot buries Zendaya's voice under so much animated yeti fur that it barely registers as a role. She plays Meechee, a curious yeti questioning her isolated community's mythology, but the character never rises above standard animated sidekick energy. The songs are forgettable, the message about truth and misinformation feels oddly heavy handed for a kids movie, and Zendaya's presence adds almost nothing memorable. This one exists on her resume more than in anyone's memory. | © Warner Bros. Pictures

Space Jam A New Legacy

10. Space Jam: A New Legacy (2021)

Space Jam: A New Legacy asked a lot of people to sit through two hours of Warner Bros branding disguised as a basketball movie. Zendaya voices Lola Bunny, and even her energy cannot fix a script obsessed with cameos over character. The plot gets buried under an algorithm villain and a nonstop parade of studio properties fighting for screen time. Fans wanted nostalgia and instead got a commercial with LeBron James in the middle of it. | © Warner Bros.

The Drama

9. The Drama (2026)

The Drama lands at the bottom simply because nobody outside a festival screening room has actually seen it yet. Kristoffer Borgli is directing, pairing Zendaya with Robert Pattinson in a story about a couple whose home renovation turns into something much darker and stranger. Early buzz points to pitch black comedy rather than a straightforward drama, which tracks with Borgli's style. Until it actually hits theaters, this one stays low on the list purely on potential rather than proof. | © A24

The Greatest Showman

8. The Greatest Showman (2017)

Anne Wheeler gets one of the more thankless jobs in The Greatest Showman, playing the trapeze artist stuck in a forbidden romance with a guy whose family would never approve. Zendaya sells the chemistry with Zac Efron mostly through movement, since their big duet happens thirty feet in the air on swinging bars. The film leans hard into spectacle over substance, and her character exists more as a symbol of tolerance than an actual person. Still, "Rewrite the Stars" became the soundtrack's breakout moment, which says something about how much she pulled off with limited material. | © 20th Century Fox

Malcolm Marie

7. Malcolm & Marie (2021)

Malcolm & Marie gives Zendaya a role built entirely on tension, no plot twists or action beats to hide behind. Stuck in one house with John David Washington for nearly two hours, she has to carry every fight, silence, and accusation in real time. The black-and-white visuals make the arguments feel even sharper, like there's nowhere left to look away. It's a rawer, angrier side of her acting range that most of her other roles never touch. | © Netflix

Far From Home

6. Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)

Far From Home gave MJ way more room to breathe than Homecoming ever did. She's sharper here, dropping conspiracy theories one minute and quietly falling for Peter the next, and Zendaya plays both sides without missing a beat. The European trip adds some fun chaos, but the real pull is watching two awkward teenagers try to have a normal relationship while the world keeps ending around them. That balance between big spectacle and small, nervous romance is what makes this sequel click. | © Sony Pictures Releasing

Spider Man Homecoming

5. Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)

Homecoming introduced Zendaya as Michelle Jones, a background character who barely registers until that final scene reveal. She spends most of the runtime tossing out dry one liners from the sidelines, more observer than participant. Nobody knew yet how big her role would get in the sequels, so this one plays like a quiet setup rather than a real showcase. It works as an origin point, but on its own it barely counts as a performance. | © Sony Pictures / Columbia Pictures

Dune

4. Dune (2021)

Chani barely gets any screen time in the first Dune, and that turned out to be the whole point. Zendaya shows up in visions and dreams long before she becomes a real presence in Paul's life, which makes her a mystery instead of a typical love interest. Denis Villeneuve keeps her purpose vague on purpose, saving her actual voice and agency for the sequel. It works as setup, but on its own this role is more promise than payoff. | © Warner Bros. Pictures

Spider Man No Way Home

3. Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)

MJ finally gets pulled into the multiverse chaos in No Way Home, and Zendaya makes sure she is not just standing on the sidelines. She knows Peter's secret now, she is scared for him, and that fear reads as real instead of decorative. The scene where she talks him down from the edge carries actual weight because of how grounded her delivery stays. Three Spider-Men get all the headlines, but MJ is the emotional anchor holding Peter's story together. | © Sony Pictures / Columbia Pictures

Cropped Dune Part Two

2. Dune: Part Two (2024)

Chani finally gets to be a full character in Dune: Part Two, not just a vision in Paul's dreams. Zendaya plays her skepticism toward Paul's rise as a prophet with real weight, especially as the people around Chani start treating him like a god. Her resistance becomes the emotional core of the back half, giving the movie something to push against besides sandworms and politics. The finale hits harder because Chani's face is the one still asking if any of this is actually worth it. | © Warner Bros.

Cropped Challengers

1. Challengers (2024)

Tashi Duncan runs Challengers like she runs every relationship in it, three steps ahead and daring anyone to catch up. Zendaya plays her as a former tennis prodigy turned coach who treats her husband and his best friend like pieces on a board, and the film never lets you settle on who actually has control. The tennis matches get cut with flashbacks so sharp that a single serve carries a decade of history. This is Zendaya's most adult role yet, and she plays the manipulation with a straight face that makes it land harder. | © MGM

1-15

Zendaya has pulled off one of the smoothest child-star-to-serious-actor transitions in memory, moving from the Disney Channel to blockbusters, prestige dramas, and awards buzz without missing a beat. Her filmography is young but already stacked with standouts. Here's a ranking of Zendaya's top movie roles, from worst to best.
