Nintendo announced their next title through a YouTube video posted on September 8 to their channel. The game, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity takes place 100 years before the hit game Breath of the Wild which was released in 2017.

This game will be the direct prequel, telling the story of the Battle between the kingdom of Hyrule and Calamity Ganon which had only been mentioned in Breath of the Wild. It is being developed by Koei Tecmo who have previously created games like Hyrule Warriors, which is part of their Warriors game series.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is clearly meant to appease fans who are patiently awaiting the sequel to Breath of the Wild which had been teased in June of 2019. The November release will fuse together the worldbuilding of the Zelda, as well as the fighting gameplay of the previous Warrior games.

Koei Tecmo and the Zelda development team worked closely together while making this game, to ensure that the world, dialogue, and graphics live up to the standards of a Zelda game which fans of the long-running series can enjoy. Mix in the 1 vs 1000 battles of a warriors game and you have a great combination of what people love about Breath of the Wild as well as the Warriors series.

The release date for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is set for November 20, 2020, on the Nintendo Switch.
