May the Fourth be with you: The top 10 Star Wars Games

1-10

Let's celebrate Star Wars Day

Old republic online
10. STAR WARS: THE OLD REPUBLIC (2011): Everybody was hoping for Knights of the Old Republic III and instead we got The Old Republic: A Star Wars MMO. While this was a disappointment to most, The old Republic still offers a long term MMO commitment within the Star Wars realm for those that want it. It’s kind of the closest we have to living in that galaxy far, far away. Worth a shot if you’re into MMOs and even if you’re not, it’s free to play, so why not try? (Image credit: BioWare)
Dark forces
9. STAR WARS DARK FORCES (1995): A first-person shooter set in the Star Wars universe modelled after Doom. Yes, it sounded as interesting then as it does now, but it worked. Dark Forces expanded upon what Doom brought to the table: It included mechanics such as looking up, down, ducking and jumping… Yes, things were different back in ‘95. Dark Forces was a great shooter in its day and introduced us to Kyle Katarn - a popular character that would be featured in more Star Wars games to come. (Image credit: LucasArts)
Rogue squadron
8. STAR WARS ROGUE SQUADRON II: ROGUE LEADER (2001): If you ever wondered what it would feel like to be an X-wing pilot, this was your game. At the time, the graphics were great and this was a real GameCube gem. An arcade shooter that aged well but unfortunately didn’t get the quality sequel it deserved. HD Remake anyone? (Image credit: Factor 5 & LucasArts)
Republic commando
7. STAR WARS REPUBLIC COMMANDO (2005): An Xbox exclusive and an exclusive take on the Star Wars license: A shooter with tactical elements where you control a squad of four, all equipped with guns and… no lightsabers. Yes, this is a tactical first-person shooter that follows a group of Clone Troopers. To this day, it stands as an innovative shooter that’s still worth playing. (Image credit: LucasArts)
Fallen order
6. STAR WARS JEDI: FALLEN ORDER (2019): No game has ever captured the raw power of lightsaber-combat with all its intricacies better and in more detail than this 2019 release. On top of that it has beautiful aesthetics, good level design and generally fun gameplay with a good story. If you’re looking for something up to date, you can’t do much wrong with this one. Lego star wars
5. LEGO STAR WARS: THE COMPLETE SAGA (2009): I Don’t let the Lego theme fool you: This is a full fledged Star Wars game that lets you relive all six movies. You can experience the full original Star Wars story, while playing with some fun and creative lego-quirks. The best part of this is playing it with friends locally - still a blast and a fun experience to this day. (Image credit: LucasArts)
Racer
4. Episode 1: Racer (1999): The Phantom Menace wasn’t necessarily the best Star Wars film but it did give us Pod Racing. Racer expanded upon that and feels like F-Zero meets Wipeout in a Star Wars setting. Surprisingly, Racer holds the Guinness record for highest selling sci-fi racer, beating both F-Zero and Wipeout. At the time it was legendary and today it deserves the label ‘oldie but goodie’. (Image credit: LucasArts)
Battleront 2
3. STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT SERIES (2004 - 2017): Modern microtransactions & monetization issues aside, the Star Wars Battlefront series has always excelled at making people feel like they are actually in the midst of a large scale battle in a galaxy far, far away. The single player is nothing to write home about but Battlefront emphasized the feeling of war in Star Wars. The latest release Star Wars Battlefront II still has people battling it out online. Jedi knight screen
2. STAR WARS: JEDI KNIGHT OUTCAST & ACADEMY (2002 & 2003): These games nailed the Jedi feeling. Ok, we’ve never really been a Jedi, but we’re pretty sure that this is what it feels like. The games made you feel powerful and had a great story as well. They even came with a multiplayer mode which was not only good but also so popular, that you’ll still find dedicated people online to this day. (Image credit: LucasArts)
Old republic
1. KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC 1 & 2 - (2003 & 2004): These BioWare games tell some of the best Star Wars stories ever. Even better: They are your stories to shape. Good or evil, Jedi or Sith - it’s all in your hands. You don’t even have to wield a lightsaber at all. A typical BioWare RPG with immense freedom to craft your own Star Wars adventure. Bonus: It’s even available on mobile now. (Image credit: BioWare)
