Some streamers are just desperate for attention.
Streamers push boundaries for attention, but Dr Disrespect’s recent act is causing more confusion than hype.
Dr Disrespect’s Highguard Invite Claim Quickly Falls Apart
Officially launched on January 26, the new hero-raid shooter Highguard officially launched. Despite receiving noticeable backlash when it was revealed at The Game Awards, the game still attracted plenty of attention on day one, with numerous high-profile streamers jumping in to try it out.
Ahead of launch, some creators were given access to an exclusive early preview event, allowing them to play the game before the general public. In a post on X, Dr Disrespect suggested that he was among those invited, sharing an image that showed a custom controller, a keyboard, an energy drink, and a card that at first glance appeared to resemble an official Highguard event badge. In the post, he wrote:
"Last week we took the Lambo to LA to check out Highguard."
That claim, however, was quickly called into question. According to other attendees as well as organizers of the event, Dr Disrespect was neither invited nor did he attend. One fellow content creator dismissed the idea outright, saying:
“Everyone would’ve noticed [him] a mile away."
Shortly after, Highguard’s Creator Manager, Chin Pua, addressed the situation directly on X:
"I can confirm Dr Disrespect was not invited to any Highguard event past or present, and the badge was not an official badge.”
When Dr Disrespect streamed Highguard on launch day, he was confronted with the allegations live on air. Rather than offering an explanation, he laughed the situation off with a brief:
"Gottem"
He then followed it up with a more pointed remark:
"How stupid are these [...] guys?"
The incident adds another chapter to a pattern of negative attention surrounding Dr Disrespect, reinforcing that this is far from the first time his behavior has drawn criticism. The streamer faced widespread backlash after he messaged a minor. Since then, he has appeared increasingly focused on maintaining relevance, now streaming on YouTube and Rumble where his content can once again be monetized. In light of this latest stunt, it’s hard not to notice how far he’s willing to go for attention and how awkward it’s becoming.
