A Florida Uber Eats driver's attempt to shoot his shot allegedly ended with him getting shot instead.
A late-night food delivery in Florida allegedly turned into an armed nightmare after an Uber Eats driver circled back to an apartment complex to shoot his shot with a customer.
Instead of getting her phone number, the driver was met by the woman's armed boyfriend. Investigators say 33-year-old Khuslen Saruultuya confronted the driver, shot him, and threatened his life in the parking lot.
The confrontation unfolded in the early hours of Monday, October 12, outside the Pearl Dadeland Apartments in Miami-Dade County, according to reporting from WPLG Local 10.
Driver Returned to Apartment Complex
According to arrest records, the driver first delivered food to the woman's apartment earlier that night. After a brief chat at the door, he decided to take a chance.
At around 3:25 a.m., he returned to the property "in an attempt to see the (woman) again and possibly obtain her phone number," police noted. After coming up empty-handed, he turned around and headed back toward his car.
That was when Saruultuya pulled up in a gray Chevrolet Corvette and escalated the situation immediately. Officers say Saruultuya hopped out, drew a handgun, and ordered the delivery driver down onto the pavement.
Even though the driver obeyed, Saruultuya allegedly fired a round that grazed the victim's right buttock. He then pistol-whipped the back of the driver's head, leaving a two-inch open wound.
Things almost turned fatal moments later. Police report that Saruultuya aimed the weapon directly at the man's head and warned, "I am going to kill you," while his girlfriend desperately screamed for him to stop.
Suspect Faces Serious Charges
Miami-Dade officers rushed to the complex just after 3:30 a.m. following 911 calls reporting gunfire and a loud argument. Witnesses described an armed man fleeing the scene in a loud sports car.
Detectives quickly matched the Corvette to Saruultuya and arrested him at his apartment shortly after. He was transported and booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he remains held with no bond.
Saruultuya now faces heavy charges, including attempted felony murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Court records indicate he also has a pending case tied to alleged drug trafficking and possession charges.
An Uber spokesperson labeled the incident "concerning" and confirmed the company is assisting local authorities with their investigation.
