A former Twitch executive has criticized the streaming platform for keeping information about Dr Disrespect's ban a secret.
"A big mistake" is how Marcus "djWheat" Graham, a former Twitch director, described the platform's decision to keep the reasoning behind Dr Disrespect's permanent ban under wraps. "I think they should have been very transparent about it," he added.
The American streamer was permanently banned from Twitch in mid-2020, but the platform offered little public information about the decision at the time.
According to Graham, Twitch kept details about enforcement decisions within a small circle of employees. Even staff members who might have expected to be informed about major bans were sometimes left in the dark.

Graham described the decision-making process at Twitch as "terrible," adding that "most decisions were terrible because Twitch doesn't talk about bans, and that is also applied internally."
Using a hypothetical workforce of 500 employees as an example, he estimated that only around 10 to 15 people would be involved in discussions surrounding specific enforcement decisions.
Graham also recalled situations in which questions about bans came up during company-wide meetings, only for employees to be told they did not need to know the details. "If you were not one of those individuals, you were not privy to that information," he described.
Dr Disrespect's Twitch Ban Remains Controversial
Guy Beahm, otherwise known as his online persona "Dr Disrespect," was permanently banned from Twitch in June 2020, but the platform did not publicly disclose the specific reason at the time. The streamer and Twitch later settled their legal dispute in March 2022, with neither side admitting wrongdoing.
The controversy resurfaced in June 2024, when former Twitch employees alleged that the ban was connected to messages Beahm exchanged with a minor through Twitch's messaging service in 2017.
Beahm subsequently acknowledged exchanging messages with a minor, describing the conversations as sometimes inappropriate. However, he denied that anything illegal had happened and said he had never met the individual. He later disputed aspects of the allegations during his return to streaming in September 2024.
