El Hijo de Fishman, a wrestler from Mexico, was arrested on October 7 and charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of 75-year-old referee Gerardo Germán Pineda. The referee died after allegedly receiving a piledriver from the wrestler during an event held on October 6 in Mineral de la Reforma.

According to USA Today, El Hijo de Fishman was competing against Máscara Sagrada NG at a show organized by El Patrón Espectáculos Lucha Libre when the incident occurred.

Local reports indicate that the wrestler performed a double underhook piledriver on Pineda, a move that involves securing an opponent's arms and positioning their head between the wrestler's legs before dropping into a seated position.

Pineda reportedly remained motionless on the canvas following the move. The match was stopped, and medical personnel were called to the ring. However, the referee was later pronounced dead. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.

Wrestling Promotion Responds to Referee's Death

El Patrón Espectáculos Lucha Libre released a statement confirming that Pineda "unfortunately lost his life," expressed regret over his passing, and confirmed that it was providing legal assistance to El Hijo de Fishman.

The organization also said its legal representative was in contact with Pineda's family and their representatives. As per their statement, they wish to "handle the case in the best way and guarantee respect for all parties involved."

It added that it would refrain from sharing further information while the legal process continues, asking fans and media outlets to avoid spreading unconfirmed claims.

The incident has also raised questions about safety procedures at the event. Local reports allege that medical personnel and an ambulance were not immediately available, although these details have not been independently confirmed.

Who Was Gerardo Germán Pineda?

Better known as El Búho, Pineda was a longtime figure in Mexican lucha libre, the country's unique professional wrestling tradition. His career included approximately 15 years as a wrestler and nearly three decades as a referee. Over the years, he worked alongside several prominent names in Mexican wrestling, which earned him recognition within the sport.

On the other hand, El Hijo de Fishman is the son of legendary wrestler Fishman, who was widely known by the nickname "Green Venom."

The investigation into Pineda's death remains ongoing as authorities determine the circumstances that led to the tragedy.
