Hasan Piker is no stranger to controversy, but his recent comparison between a stream-sniping incident and a sexual assault has sparked widespread backlash.

Hasan's Stream Sniping Comparison Draws Widespread Criticism

There is currently a clip circulating on social media showing the well-known political streamer Hasan Piker comparing being stream sniped to the sexual assault of Emiru during TwitchCon. In the clip, Hasan criticizes that some people strongly condemn the assault against Emiru, while simultaneously remaining silent when he gets stream sniped. According to him, this double standard amounts to what he describes as “hypocrisy.”

Hasan is referring to a situation where he got stream sniped by a guy who held up a meme of Hasan’s dog, Kaya, saying:

“Free Kaya.”

However, that was it. You could see that Hasan was annoyed by this, but there was no inappropriate physical contact, no violence, no insults, just a dude who was trolling the stream. Although arguably annoying for streamers, it is not even remotely close to sexual assault.

“A Mountain and a Molehill”: Asmongold Criticizes Hasan’s Comparison

Of course, Asmongold also reacted to the clip with a clear opinion. Responding to the accusation of hypocrisy, he said:

“No, it’s not. Do you really think that what happened to you is on the same level as that? What are you talking about? […] This is a mountain and a molehill.”

With this, Asmongold is expressing what many people think. Stream sniping is understandably very annoying for streamers and can overstep boundaries. However, being sexually assaulted, while someone attempts to force you to kiss them, is a fundamentally different and far more serious violation that cannot be meaningfully compared to a trolling incident during a livestream.

The backlash shows that many viewers draw a clear line between online annoyance and real-world harm, a distinction they expect public figures to recognize.
