It's hard to believe, but it wasn't all a meme after all: Spaceballs is set to get a sequel in 2027. And you'll definitely recognize the faces.

The Search For More Money?

No one thought it was possible, but now we have official confirmation: Spaceballs 2 has been officially announced. The film is set to hit theaters in time for the 40th anniversary. For those who are unfamiliar with this masterpiece:

Spaceballs is actually a Star Wars parody that pulls out all the stops to poke fun at sci-fi movies. The evil Spaceballs (Spaceballers?) have used up all their oxygen and want to steal that of another planet. So they kidnap Princess Vespa, the daughter of the planetary king, to blackmail him – but space "hero" Lone Starr and his fluffy sidekick Barf (half human, half dog) set out to rescue her. Along the way, they meet the wise little Yogurt, who explains "the force", or rather "the Schwartz" to them. As they fight their way through a series of situations filled with countless allusions, there is of course a happy ending – with the planet saved, the princess rescued, and plenty of gags.

A sequel was already announced in the film through a fourth wall break. Who would have thought that 40 years later, it would actually happen?

Legendary Cast For A Legendary Movie

The producer of the film? Mel Brooks. THAT Mel Brooks. The man will turn 99 years old in two days, on June 28.

We also already know about the cast, which should make fans particularly happy.

Bill Pullman as Lone Starr, Rick Moranis as Dark Helmet, and Daphne Zuniga as Princess Vespa are back to reprise their roles! However, the lead actor will be none other than Josh Gad, whom we know as Olaf from Frozen and who has also appeared in films such as Pixels. In addition, Lewis Pullman, son of Bill Pullman, will play a role, and Keke Palmer will also be there.

The "Non-Prequel Non-Reboot Sequel Part Two with Reboot Elements Franchise Expansion Film", as it describes itself, will delight longtime fans, as Rick Moranis retired from acting in the 1990s to care for his children after the death of his wife. However, he will make his comeback with the bang of Spaceballs 2!

When Can We See This Gem?

Although there is no exact date yet and no trailer showing actual footage, there is a teaser with a "short version" of films that have been released since the original. The video mainly pokes fun at Star Wars, but films such as Dune and Avatar also get a roasting. Josh Gad shared the video on his X channel:

What do you think? Mel Brooks has a clear opinion: "After 40 years, we asked the fans what they wanted... Instead, we're making this movie." We're excited!

Video games have been with Lilli since her earliest memories. After grandma's first console, everything took its course after her mother introduced her to League of Legends in 2010. Countless games and studying game design later, she decided to write about her biggest passion (when she's already talking about it all day anyway)....
