LEGO goes interactive: The company has now taken a big step into the future with the introduction of its new technology, the LEGO Smart Brick. Find out what it's all about and where you can pre-order it.
LEGO is bringing a new generation of playing sets with brand new technology onto the market. The LEGO Smart Brick is exactly what the name suggests: A LEGO Brick that can do more than just click onto other bricks.
The LEGO Smart Brick
The Smart Brick can bring LEGO builds truely to life! It has built-in sensors, motion detection, light and sound recognition, as well as a small speaker that reacts directly to how players interact with their build. Instead of pressing buttons or using an app, the brick responds naturally to movement, placement and in-game actions.
According to LEGO, the technology is completely screen-free and fully compatible with existing LEGO systems. That means players can integrate the Smart Brick into their own creations and expand older builds with interactive features.
LEGO Smart Play meets Star Wars
The first LEGO Smart Play sets are launching as part of the LEGO Star Wars lineup. LEGO is starting big here, with three interactive “All-in-One” sets that bring iconic Star Wars scenes directly into physical play.
Using Smart Bricks, Smart Minifigures and Smart Tags, ships can react with engine sounds, lasers fire when battles begin and characters trigger iconic audio moments simply by being placed in the right spot.
These are the three Smart Play sets that you can pre-order right now!
- Luke’s Red Five X-Wing – featuring interactive engine sounds, laser fire and repair effects
- Darth Vader’s TIE Fighter – bringing the iconic roar of the twin ion engines to life
- Throne Room Duel & A-Wing – recreating the final duel from Return of the Jedi with lightsaber sounds and music cues
Each set includes at least one Smart Brick, Smart Minifigures and Smart Tags, allowing players to instantly jump into interactive storytelling without any setup.
Release date and pre-orders
The LEGO Smart Play Star Wars sets are already available for pre-order , while the official release is set for March 1, 2026.
LEGO has already confirmed that Smart Play is only the beginning. More sets, updates and new features are planned for the future, suggesting that this could become a long-term pillar of LEGO’s product lineup.
