Popular content creator Charlie White, better known online as penguinz0, has shared his unfiltered thoughts on Marvel's Wolverine after wrapping up the campaign. Addressing his audience in a dedicated review video, the YouTuber was largely disappointed.

He made clear that he does not view it as the worst game of the year, but he considers it one of Insomniac Games' weakest modern releases.

Story and Writing Become Major Problems

The central issue for penguinz0 lies in the narrative execution. While he praised the voice cast and their performances, he argued that strong line delivery cannot overcome fundamentally weak writing.

Antagonist Sabretooth drew particularly sharp criticism, with the creator mocking several dialogue exchanges as painfully awkward. He also voiced frustration with the depiction of Jean Grey, noting that the telepath felt sidelined and uncharacteristically helpless for substantial stretches of the campaign.

The finale similarly failed to win him over. While certain set-pieces impress visually on a technical level, the surrounding narrative consistently undercuts the emotional stakes.

Wolverine's Combat Gets Repetitive

The combat mechanics initially made a far stronger impression. Tearing through waves of enemies and chaining slashes felt kinetic and satisfying throughout the opening chapters.

However, penguinz0 argued that the core loop quickly plateaus. New unlockable abilities and upgrades fail to meaningfully alter encounters, leaving players reliant on the same sequence of attacks across the back half of the campaign.

He also criticized the game's aggressive hand-holding. Overbearing scent markers, screen indicators, and automated traversal paths remove tension, occasionally progressing scenes with negligible controller input. While clarifying that accessibility toggles are essential, he emphasized that heavy-handed assists should not dominate the baseline default experience.

Despite those gripes, penguinz0 acknowledged highlights within the set-piece boss encounters. Ultimately, he described Marvel's Wolverine as an uneven experience that struggles to justify its $70 price tag, rating it in the high-5 to low-6 out of 10 range.
