Foodie Beauty’s countless scandals now have another one added to the list: apparently trying to rewrite her religion...
Chantal Sarault, better known online as Foodie Beauty, is once again at the center of an absurd internet debate. The Canadian mukbang YouTuber, who has regularly presented herself as a devout Muslim since converting to Islam, allegedly ate sausages in one of her recent streams that were made with pork casing.
Animal Cruelty, Donation Scams, and Lies
That said, neither her religion nor her eating habits are usually the main reason people criticize her. Allegations of animal cruelty and donation fraud – including claims that she was collecting money for stray cats in Kuwait as well as a poor schoolgirl in Syria – have, for many, made Sarault’s problematic behavior impossible to ignore.
The latest backlash is ultimately just another example of her strange relationship with her chosen religion. Not long ago, she already showed how loosely she sometimes treats the wearing of the hijab, and now she appears to be rewriting Islam’s food-related rules for herself out of sheer convenience.
"Eating Pork Is Better Than Wasting Food in Islam"
The incident was picked up mainly by Foodie Beauty comment sections and reaction communities. Clips and recordings circulating online appear to show Sarault noticing the ingredient list of the sausages she was about to prepare, realizing that while they were poultry sausages, the casing was made from pork intestine. Instead of getting an alternative, she argued that, according to Muslim belief, wasting food is worse than eating pork.
While the Quran does include passages discouraging believers from wasting food, and even permits the consumption of pork in exceptional cases, those exceptions apply to unavoidable emergencies – not to a Canadian YouTuber who, knowingly or unknowingly, bought the wrong meat and simply doesn’t feel like passing on it or giving it to friends or neighbors.
Reinterpreting Islam Out of Convenience
In one reaction video, the moment is described as Sarault “rewriting” her religious rules live on stream in order to justify eating the sausages.
For many viewers, that is the real issue: not the sausage itself, but the contradiction between Foodie Beauty’s public image and her behavior.
Sarault has prominently centered her Muslim identity for years, often wearing a hijab and repeatedly discussing religious or moral rules in her streams – frequently in ways that allow her to cast herself as a victim and frame criticism of her behavior as Islamophobia.
And while there certainly are people who dislike Sarault primarily because of her appearance or perceived faith, for the vast majority, her controversial behavior remains the main problem.
After all, Foodie Beauty is no stranger to internet controversies. And in this latest case, there is more than enough reason for criticism, especially Sarault’s lack of honesty.
Because at the end of the day, most people probably would not care how she chooses to practice her religion privately. But inventing a justification in order to claim the moral high ground over her critics says a lot about the same problematic character traits she has shown time and time again.
