SatchOnSims Reacts To Sims 4 Marketplace – Simmer-Made Content Can Now Be Bought

The Sims 4 has announced that they will launch the Sims 4 Marketplace: A place where simmers can put their own content up for sale.

The Sims 4 Marketplace promises that people who have created custom content for years can now implement the things they create into the game itself – and get paid. While for the creators of such content that can be a great opportunity to actually monetize what they do, EA's decision sparked a lot of outrage within the community. Sims YouTuber SatchOnSims broke everything down:

What Is The Sims 4 Marketplace?

In the announcement video, the Sims team explained:

"The Sims 4 Marketplace is a new in-game space where you can discover, purchase and download content made by a group of talented simmers called 'Makers'."

While most people would agree that it's good that custom content creators are getting paid for the hard work they put into every single item they create, others consider this a greedy tactic by EA. Popular Sims YouTuber SatchOnSims, for example, published a few videos discussing the Sims 4 Marketplace. In one of them he states:

"In other words, EA are basically making passive income because they're not doing anything. They're just getting somebody else to do it and they're getting paid off somebody else's work, basically."

Alleged Revenue Split Backlash

And this fear might not be too unfounded. The official announcement video doesn't clarify what the revenue split between the creators and EA is, nor do they state how much this new in-game currency "moola" costs. According to Dexerto, however, there seem to have been leaks that show a 30/70 revenue split:

Though paying creators for their content sounds really good on paper, this way of going about it does not meet a lot of support in the community.

In his second video about the subject, SatchOnSims explains how someone on the official Sims Discord got mad at the pricing and the EA community manager replied by asking them to keep it respectful. SatchOnSims then adds:

"I think it's a valid criticism and I don't think it's good to shut down valid criticism about pricing as 'please be respectful' because actually, you're not respecting your customer if you are not listening to their opinions."

Simmers History Of Facing Big Changes To The Game

Custom content has been part of the Sims community for years. And while it was stated that you will still be able to download custom content like you used to even after the Marketplace gets launched, many simmers are still enraged. Over the last months, more and more people got upset with some of the business decisions EA was making with a lot of creators even leaving the EA creator network.

At the beginning of 2026, they published a statement highlighting their focus for the new year, which seemed like a great step in the right direction. If you want to read more about that, click here: Sims Team Tries To Reassure Community: "Values Are Unchanged"

This new Marketplace, however, now feels like they're adding fuel to the fire instead of putting it out:
