Last year, EA has been sold to Saudi Arabia for $55 billion, leaving a lot of Sims fans and players afraid how the deal might affect their favorite game.

The Players' Concern

In 2025, a deal to sell EA to Saudi Arabia for $55 billion was finally sealed. This decision left a lot of fans very worried. Although as GameSpot reported a lot of game companies were already bought by Saudi Arabia, this deal felt different to The Sims community. The human rights violations that Saudi Arabia is often connected with never seemed to align with The Sims Team's morals.

"The Values of The Sims Are Unchanged"

In the official new year game updates that were posted on January 9, 2026, The Sims Team actively tried to stop the players' fears. In the post it says:

Our Sims team's creative control, guided by our values of inclusivity, choice, creativity, community, and play, has not changed. These values inspire the decisions we make each and every day as we plan for today, tomorrow, and the future.

Through a multitude of expansion packs, allowing players to create the lives of their sims freely and without any restrictions in terms of gender identity, sexuality, general lifestyle or similar, EA and especially the team behind The Sims has been very vocal about their stance on many of these social issues.

What Can Be Expected For The Future Of The Sims

Though the deal does not seem to have been cancelled as The Sims team does not directly address it in their post, they made it very clear that with every decision they make they keep their players in mind.

Looking ahead, our focus is on the next era of The Sims. It is one we aspire to build with you, because The Sims has always been at its best when players help shape what comes next.

The deal is said to finally wrap up in 2027. How much of these promises finally turns out to be correct will therefore remain to be seen.
