Out of the blue we get news about an absolute cult series – Scrubs is getting a reboot and the main actor is a familiar face.

After months of speculation, it’s now official: ABC has greenlit a full season of the Scrubs revival, and it’s happening sooner than expected.
The Cult Series Is Getting A Reboot
Pretty much everyone knows the series Scrubs. With the doctor show, producer Bill Lawrence has delivered a hit with quotable dialog and meme moments without limit. And we were also taken by the story:
With John "JD" Dorian and his friends Turk and his wife Carla, the on-off relationship with Elliot under the watchful eye of Dr. Cox, we're still waiting for a satisfying conclusion to the show. The last season wasn't that popular with fans – no way to go out like that. Reportedly, we're getting a reboot now to right a wrong committed years ago.

Zach Braff Is Returning As JD
It has now been announced that, after lengthy negotiations, a contract has been signed with Zach Braff and that he will be returning as JD in the reboot. He won’t be alone: Sarah Chalke and Donald Faison are also returning as Dr. Elliot Reid and Dr. Christopher Turk, reuniting the beloved trio. The negotiations were apparently about payment and the filming location, which will now take place in Los Angeles instead of Vancouver. Outlets report that the discussions were taking such a bad turn that the whole project was almost canceled.
According to the official synopsis, J.D. and Turk are working together again after many years apart. Medicine has changed, the interns have changed, but their friendship has stood the test of time. The revival will be produced by original creator Bill Lawrence alongside longtime collaborators Aseem Batra and Tim Hobert, who will serve as showrunners. Braff, Chalke, and Faison are also involved as producers, ensuring the heart of the original series remains intact.

Season 9(+1)?
The majority of fans see the episode “My Finale” as the worthy conclusion to the series, which made even hardened men cry. And so it felt like salt in the wound when, for many people, season 9 had virtually nothing to do with Scrubs. The former main characters only make sporadic appearances and somehow feel lifeless, perhaps because we said farewell to them at the end of season 8. And so most fans see the 9th season as a "spin-off" and therefore not as a real part of the series.
So, understandably, there are many critical voices about the reboot, which raises the question whether every movie and every series should really be rebooted or simply left alone.

ABC is aiming to premiere the new season during the 2025/2026 TV season, which means we could see Scrubs return to screens before the end of this year.
What do you think? Would you like to see JD in a new edition? Or do you think the series is completely finished?
