Bingo bongo, Lars is back. The Steven Universe sequel Lars of the Stars is officially in the works.

Cartoon Network Studios has announced Steven Universe: Lars of the Stars, a new animated sequel series currently in development and set to stream on Prime Video.
The reveal came during Warner Bros. Animation's showcase at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, with series creator Rebecca Sugar returning as executive producer, joined by longtime collaborator Ian Jones-Quartey (OK K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes).
The series main character will be Lars Barriga – once a grumpy Beach City teen, now leader with pink skin and a pirate crew of misfit Gems.
He'res the official synopsis:
"Steven Universe: Lars of the Stars explores the past, present and future of the universe. The sequel follows Lars Barriga, eternal teenager and space outlaw, as he and his pirate crew smuggle contraband, evade the authorities and uncover the darkest secrets of the fallen Gem Empire"
New Visuals And Tone Of The Series

Visually, the newly revealed logo hints at a rebellious tone – the “O” in “Stars” stylized with a skull, echoing Lars’ iconic earrings.
Thematically, the logo’s stripped-down, punk-adjacent vibe echoes a larger theme of the series: belonging even when you're an outsider. The Off-Colors and Lars were never meant to “fit” into Gem society. That spirit of resistance, of building new meaning out of what was discarded, seems central to Lars of the Stars
A Fan-Favorite Title Returns
Longtime fans may recognize the name – Lars of the Stars was originally the title of a season 5 episode, which first introduced Lars' swashbuckling alter ego and his mismatched crew of Off-Colors. Now, the concept is being expanded into a full-fledged series.

The new series most likely picks up after Lars' return to space after the episode "Little Graduation", having accepted that Earth – and even his past with Sadie – no longer holds him back.
New Secrets
In line with the synopsis, the series is expected to explore the evolving Gem society in Era 3, now led by a reformed – or at least still learning and reforming – Diamond authority.
Sugar has previously hinted at wanting to explore the origins of the Diamonds – a thread the new series may finally pick up.
Fans may see the return of unresolved arcs, including the mysterious Emerald, and perhaps even reveal little details – like the singular gems that one of his crew members Fluorite is made of.

The series may also introduce new species and planets, building out the cosmos in ways the original never had room to explore.
Ties to the Past – And To Steven
While Steven himself isn’t the focus, his story isn’t forgotten.
After the events of Steven Universe Future, he continues to search for healing and purpose, having set aside his role as Pink Diamond. Thanks to Lars’ still-magical hair portal, there's always potential for crossover moments – and even insight into Steven’s new journey.
No Release Date Yet, But Prime Video On Board
Lars of the Stars is currently in development, with no release window announced. However, it’s confirmed that the series will stream exclusively on Prime Video as part of a new partnership between Amazon and Cartoon Network Studios.
