It was supposed to be a classic prank that students pull on their teacher and we have all seen if before – Whether it was in a movie or TV show or in real life: Wrapping a teacher's house in toilet paper, in theory, should just be funny. Unfortunately, a tragic accident cost the teacher that got pranked his life.

The Tragic Accident

It was supposed to be a joke. According to Atozy, five students made the plan to throw toilet paper on their math teacher's house. When the students were done and made their way back to their cars, the teacher reportedly left the house to run after them. Unfortunately, however, since it was slippery that day, teacher Jason Hughes fell and was run over by one of the cars. Even though the students immediately stopped and got out of their cars to help, Hughes ultimately passed away from his injuries.

Jason Hughes didn't even seem to run out of the house because he was angry – in fact, according to the BBC he even knew they were going to prank them and was excited for it. We can only assume that the reason he left the house in the first place was to surprise them and let them see his reaction.

His Family Wants The Charges To Get Dropped

The BBC also reports that the 18-year-old boy who was driving the car that tragically ended up running over the teacher was charged with vehicular homicide and all five of the high schoolers who were involved in the prank were charged with criminal trespassing and littering on private property. Hughes' wife, however, explicitly states that his family wants the charges to get dropped:

"This would be counter to Jason's lifelong dedication of investing in the lives of these children."
