What if your first hater turned out to be your ex-boyfriend? That’s exactly what Valkyrae experienced.
Getting hate online is tough, but what if it comes from someone who once claimed to love you? Valkyrae knows that pain all too well.
When Your First Hater Is Your Ex
In a recent episode of The Comment Section with Drew Afualo, Valkyrae opened up about her first encounter with hate directed at her content. She spoke about her early days creating videos on Instagram while working at GameStop. When her Instagram account reached 3,000 followers, she began to see the potential in turning content creation into a career. However, her boyfriend at the time had a very different perspective. When she proudly showed him her progress, his response was apparently:
"This is embarrassing. Don't do this."
She further explained that he was not the only jealous boyfriend she had. Good thing she didn't listen to them because Valkyrae is now one the most successful content creators of the USA.
From Doubt To Confidence
Valkyrae’s journey didn’t begin with fame and confidence. It started with doubt, much of it coming from someone close to her. When her then-boyfriend dismissed her early success, it planted a seed of uncertainty. But instead of backing down, she kept going. Through long hours, low pay, and little support, she slowly built not just a career but a sense of self-worth.
Today, she stands as one of the most successful creators in the industry. Her story is a reminder that belief in yourself often has to come before others believe in you, especially when they don’t.
Not Every Voice Deserves Your Attention
Every creator has a starting point and often, unexpected resistance. Valkyrae’s story isn’t unique because it involves hate, yet it’s powerful because it shows what happens when you move forward anyway. Whether you’re a viewer or a creator, it’s worth remembering: the loudest voice in the room isn’t always the one that should guide you.
