A PTuber wins VTuber of the Year Award and the VTubers are not happy about it.
TheBurntPeanut winning the VTuber of the Year Award has sparked a discussion about what a VTuber actually is, as many argue that Peanut doesn’t fit the definition.
VTuber of the Year? Not Everyone Agrees
TheBurntPeanut does not look like your typical VTuber. Instead of an anime-style model, viewers see a peanut-shaped avatar with a face filter, and his overall vibe is, to put it mildly, far from what most people would associate with VTubing. He has repeatedly emphasized that he doesn’t consider himself a VTuber, and many in the community agree with him on that point.
This ignited the debate on how a VTuber is to be defined. Big VTubers like Ironmouse defended TheBurntPeanut, while some smaller creators were offended by Peanut winning this award. To address the situation, with many VTubers expressing anger toward him, Peanut simply said:
Good.
From Outrage to Unexpected Support
While some became even angrier at Peanut for statements like this, he received support from someone few would have expected. His rival from the Arc Raiders war, Hutch, publicly defended him:
There is very simple solution. You don't want Peanut to win the best Vtuber Award? Very easy. Outwork him, outdo him and become better than he is. Grow more viewership, get more votes, be more entertaining and then you can win the best VTuber...
xQc also had something to say about the debate. From his point of view, the whole discussion is rooted in jealousy. He argued that some VTubers are upset because they spent thousands of dollars on their anime-style models, only to be overshadowed by a “scuffed” avatar like TheBurntPeanut’s.
At the end of the day, the whole situation says more about online drama than about the state of VTubing itself. Whether people see TheBurntPeanut as a “real” VTuber or not does not change the fact that he won because viewers enjoy what he does. The discussion around definitions will fade quickly, but Peanut’s impact and the humor he brings will probably stick around far longer than this brief wave of outrage.
