EA FC 24 continues the series tradition of fans getting angry at outrageously high pricing in Ultimate Team, with EA regularly asking fans to dig deep into their wallets for some of these cards

The latest offender in this category is part of the EA FC 24 Ultimate Birthday event, which celebrates 15 years of Ultimate Team’s existence. The Ultimate Birthday Icon Guarantee Pack costs a staggering 750,000 Coins or 5,000 FC Points. As the name suggests, the pack guarantees you one Ultimate Birthday Icon, with the selection including great players like Thierry Henry, Ruud Gullit or Dennis Bergkamp. You also get 20 Rare Gold Player Items rated 85 or higher, with 3 guaranteed to be 89 or higher.

That’s obviously not a bad selection of items, but the asking price is frankly outrageous. This amount of coins requires a ton of grinding, and if you want to buy it with points, it would cost you a whopping $50.

EA FC 24: New Ultimate Birthday Pack Enrages Community

New record for most expensive pack, right? Anyone fancy spending 50 EUR on FUT Birthday Keane simulator? by u/nafets2307 in EASportsFC

The community reaction was once again extremely negative after seeing this pack. One Reddit post went viral, suggesting that this must be a “new record for most expensive pack”. The responses are not particularly amused about the high asking price, with the top comment by user KingTocco calling it a “f-ing joke” and saying they “could name so many better things you could do with $50, EA are laughing at us”.

As the community points out, there are many other and arguably better things you can do with $50. For example, here's a selection of games you can currently buy on the Steam spring sale for less than that:

  • Grand Theft Auto 5
  • Hogwarts Legacy
  • Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Cyberpunk 2077
  • Resident Evil 4
  • The Last of Us Part 1
  • EA FC 24

This is of course not a new sentiment. Outrage over microtransactions is an everyday occurrence, whether in EAFC or other games plagued by scandalous business models. It seems like this is a problem that’s getting worse, not better, especially in EA’s case. And part of the fanbase seems to get more and more alienated by this practice.

One Reddit comment predicts “the first 1 million coins pack by TOTS”, which doesn’t seem unlikely anymore and might be the straw that breaks the camel’s back – at least for some players.
