A group of hackers has announced that they have successfully breached Nintendo's security network and stolen internal data.
Nintendo has since responded to the allegations and issued a brief statement. The allegedly stolen data has still not been published.
Well-Known Hacker Collective Brags About Data Theft
The hacker collective Crimson Collective is already known for past cyberattacks. Among other things, a similar incident occurred last month at the US software manufacturer Red Hat.
Crimson Collective has now announced on social media that it has successfully hacked Nintendo, adding a screenshot showing internal company folders with sensitive content as supposed proof. Hackmanac, an account that documents cyberattacks, also shared this information on X.

Is The Data Being Leaked?
If internal information is leaked, this could reveal currently unknown projects or announcements from Nintendo. There is also the possibility that Crimson Collective will use the stolen data as leverage to demand payment from Nintendo. The hacker collective took a similar approach in the Red Hat case. However, this strategy did not work at the time.
Nintendo has since commented on the incident as follows:
„We cannot confirm the leakage of personal information, and there is no leakage of development or business information.“
The Crimson Collective's attack was therefore minor and only affected the servers responsible for hosting Nintendo's websites.
It remains to be seen whether and how Crimson Collective will use the allegedly stolen data for its own purposes.
