The new Cold Snap update for ARC Raiders is now live on all platforms. Here’s what’s new.

Map-Condition: Cold Snap

While the window for the first expedition runs from December 17 to December 22, the new update also introduces a new map condition. This time, players won’t have to fight their way through nighttime darkness or dodge lightning strikes, but instead must contend with the cold. When staying outdoors during Cold Snap, players continuously lose health until they find warm shelter. Players therefore need to prepare accordingly to avoid falling victim to the cold. In addition, there are visual changes such as frozen lakes and snowstorms that can significantly reduce visibility.

The new map condition appears on Dam Battlegrounds, Spaceport, Buried City, and The Blue Gate. Fortunately, this new weather condition does not affect Stella Montis, as that map is already punishing enough even without additional weather effects.

A New Event And Project

First up is the new Flickering Flames event. In it, players can unlock 25 tiers of rewards by earning experience points, and thus Merits. To access the event, players must complete five matches.

In addition, there is the Candleberry Banquet project. Alongside the expedition, this introduces a new project for players to tackle. You’ll need to collect unique items and Candleberries to progress. The project features five tiers, each offering rewards such as Raider Tokens, cosmetics, and Merits.

Cold Snap, the Flickering Flames event, and the Candleberry Banquet project all run from December 16 to January 13.

New Raider Deck And New Cosmetics

Starting December 26, a new permanent Raider Deck will also be added to the game. It will offer a wide range of new cosmetics available for free, including the new Goalie skin.

In addition, the update includes several balance adjustments. Among other changes, new options for resetting the skill tree have been added. Two weapons also receive much-needed buffs: the Bettina has been improved to be more effective in PvP, and the Rattler finally gets a larger magazine.

Ultimately, it remains to be seen what real impact the update will have on the game. The new map condition could bring a breath of fresh air to raids, as could the new project and the accompanying event. The new Raider Deck may also motivate many players to dive from one raid straight into the next.

Whether the balance changes will truly turn the Rattler and the Bettina into viable options remains to be seen in practice. Until then, there’s at least the anticipation of a snow-covered version of our favorite maps, because let’s be honest: your favorite map definitely isn’t Stella Montis.
