Marvel Rivals celebrates its first anniversary. One year after its release, the game invites players to a virtual birthday party with special events and exclusive rewards.
Imagine standing in the middle of a virtual hall filled with glowing balloons, each holding a surprise, but only one contains the ultimate treasure. Your heart races as you reach out to one of the balloons, your eyes fixed on the chance to hit the jackpot.
That exact feeling of excitement and thrill is now coming to Marvel Rivals, just in time for its first anniversary. The Van Dyne's Grand Opening Event, part of the celebrations for the game's first birthday, introduces a Gacha system for the first time, allowing players to grab exclusive rewards, including the coveted Psylocke Daring Daifuku Legendary Skin.
The Units needed for this can be earned in-game through daily logins, missions, or events, or alternatively purchased with real money, giving everyone the chance to participate in the Gacha.
How The Marvel Rivals Gacha Works
For those unfamiliar with the Gacha system, players spend in-game currency to receive a random item from a pool. It’s essentially a gamble where you either hit the jackpot or end up with smaller cosmetic items. In Marvel Rivals, the system uses an escalating cost model: the first balloon pop costs 100 Units, the second 200, and so on until all balloons are opened. If a player pulls the Psylocke skin early, all remaining rewards are automatically unlocked. Depending on luck, the entire bundle can cost as little as 100 Units or a maximum of 2,400 Units, which matches the regular store price for the full skin bundle.
The event offers six different rewards in total, including the Psylocke skin, a spray, emotes, an MVP animation, nameplates, and emojis, all themed around Psylocke. Each balloon contains one of these items, and pulling the “jackpot” unlocks the entire collection a clever incentive for risk-taking players.
Anniversary Highlights And A New Hero
In addition to the Gacha event, there are more anniversary celebrations. On December 5, a countdown event will take place in the Times Square Social Hub, where players can earn the exclusive title “Rivals' Day 2025” and additional Units. The Rivals Rewind feature has also been introduced, summarizing players’ yearly stats and awarding bonus Units. Fans can also look forward to the new Luna Snow Cherry Delight skin, available for direct purchase in the store starting December 4.
The Van Dyne's Grand Opening Event marks the final major update before Season 5.5, which launches on December 12 and introduces Rogue as a new playable hero.
Marvel Rivals continues its series of events and cosmetic updates, which include new skins, daily rewards, and the massive 18v18 Conquest Annihilation mode.
With the introduction of the Gacha system, Marvel Rivals takes a bold step toward gambling mechanics, offering players both the thrill of chance and the opportunity to obtain exclusive cosmetics, while the traditional direct purchase of skins remains a safe alternative. Those who take the risk could end up with more than they ever expected if they pull the Psylocke skin.
