Metaphor: ReFantazio comes with a mixture of 2D and 3D animated cutscenes, multi-layered combat and an open world to explore. But will it be worth playing?

On September 25, ATLUS released their upcoming game's prologue demo that gave us great insight on the story and gameplay that will await us in the full release. Here are our thoughts.
Metaphor: ReFantazio — How good is the demo?
The story is, in its core, very simple. We play as a nameless protagonist with his fairy companion, Gallica, and travel to the capital city of the United Kingdom of Euchronia, where we find out that the king has been assassinated. The kingdom falls into unrest and chaos, where evil forces prevail.
We know that the cursed prince is still alive, and that we must save him — and with him, save the kingdom. So, when a royal tournament is announced, we have to participate and find many allies among the tribes of Euchronia.
With its grand story, comes an even grander map. In the demo, we only get to see and explore a fragment of it, but it is certain that we will be able to explore the entire kingdom in the full release.

The gameplay, especially the combat system, is rather unique. While at first glance it may seem like another turn-based combat game, Metaphor actually switches between action and turn-based combat.
This way, you don't have to enter long fight scenes with insignificant enemies, and it greatly improves the fast pacing of the game.
So, all in all, should you give this game a try?
Well, the demo is certainly worth checking out if any of the above interested you, since it is completely free on Steam. It is quite the long demo as well, many players spending up to 15 hours with it. The full game, however, will cost $69.99 and is currently scheduled for release on October 11, 2024.
