NetherRealm recently gave us a sneak peek at the upcoming DLC, Khaos Reigns. It will be released on September 24, 2024, for $50.

On the same day, a free update will be made available to all MK1 players that will see the return of The Towers of Times as well as some QoL changes.

The Towers Of Time Returning

With the free update on September 24, Mortal Kombat 1 will get the returning mode Towers of Time, this mode will have nine different towers that you climb by fighting NPC's.

  • The first three towers will be the same towers we have in the game now, where you can unlock cutscenes for the characters or seasonal skins after each milestone level. A new tower will be coming with this patch that will allow you to unlock skins from old seasons that you've missed.
  • The next three towers are a series of towers that will change every hour with a different difficulty.
  • In the last three towers, you will be able to test new DLC characters. At the launch of the update, these characters will be Sektor, Noob Saibot and Cyrax, who will be available with the new DLC.

In this mode, there will be challenges that can only be completed in this mode. With these challenges you can collect items that will help you climb up the tower, and once per week you can gain Dragon Crystals, the premium currency that normally requires real money to obtain.

Last but not least, these challenges also give you points. Points that allow you to climb up a ranking system that will give you rewards, like skins and gear for the fighters, at the end of the season.

Quality Of Life Changes For Invasion Mode

Season 8 will also introduce a major of quality-of-life change, a much-anticipated mini-map for Invasion mode. Players will finally be able to pinpoint the locations of chests, boss encounters, and other points of interest.

Another smaller but sill anticipated mode will be the Online Practice mode, where you can train your combos with your friends or just sparring for the eternity.

Those are the big new changes for the game. Of course there also will be some smaller one like new Brutalities for characters, new Animalities and a Warrior Shrine, where you can see the top 5 players in Kombat League from each previous season.

Phew! That was a lot, but nice work NetherRealm.
